Bob Giles Obituary

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our dad, grandpa, “papa” and friend Bob Giles of Crystal Lake, Saskatchewan on October 22, 2019 at the age of 78.  Bob has left to celebrate his life daughter Marci (Joel) Jordan and Carter and daughter Robin (Greg) Oakley and Ireland.

Bob was born in Regina on April 20, 1941 to Frank and Marjorie Giles. His early years were spent in Regina, Preeceville and Fort Qu’Appelle.  Bob was always very active in sports as a player in both football and hockey, later going on to coach young people in ringette and hockey.  The Albert Park Cougars Ringette team and Preeceville Pats and Regina Kings hockey teams went on to win league championships.  Bob was an active golfer and enjoyed golfing with family and friends at his favourite courses.  He enjoyed following professional hockey and his favourite team the Boston Bruins.  Football was always Bob‘s passion.  He was an avid supporter of the Saskatchewan Roughriders and a long-time season ticket holder since 1973.   He introduced many clients and friends to their first game at Taylor Field.

Bob achieved his certification as an International Certified Alcohol & Drug Counsellor from I.C.A.D.C. He was instrumental in the development of Employee Assistance Programing in Saskatchewan. His work and that of his company in this field helped countless individuals and families.  As many will know, Bob lived his life in sobriety for over 53 years.

Bob was always known for being blunt and to the point.  He didn’t mince his words, he told it like he saw it. Those that knew him well saw his softer caring side.  This was especially evident with his granddaughters Oakley and Ireland who never failed to light up his eyes even to the very end.

We want to thank the staff of the Preeceville Long Term Care Facility and Preeceville Hospital for their outstanding warmth and care during these past few months.  Their kindness made his journey and that of ours, the family, somewhat easier.

Bob was a very private man and in respect to his wishes no service will be held.  His cremated remains will be buried high on the hill in the Fort Qu’Appelle, Sask cemetery.  Memorials in memory of Bob may be made to the Preeceville Hospital or the Preeceville Long Term Care Auxillary c/o Box 633 Preeceville, SK S0A 3B0 or Sask. SPCA, Box 37, Saskatoon, SK S7K 3K1 Condolences can be sent to the family at www.preecevillefuneralhome.com
