KITZAN – Eugene Kitzan of the Preeceville Long term Care Centre formerly of Hazel Dell passed away on July 13, 2018. He was seventy five years of age.
Eugene Bill Kitzan was born March 13, 1943. He is the oldest of child of Pete and Mary Kitzan. Eugene lived in Hazel Dell his entire life and spent his days helping with small tasks around the house, chopping wood and hauling fresh water to house, going for the mail, watching TV, and updating everyone that came to visit with the hockey stats. One of his favourite things to do was pick mushrooms with his mom. She said he had the best eyes for that job and always picked the most. Eugene attended Shaftsbury School in Hazel Dell until Grade 6. At that time Mary pulled him out of school due to health problems.
Eugene faced many health challenges his entire life. He never let those challenges slow him down and he made the best out of each situation.
Eugene’s favourite TV shows were hockey, cartoons, the news and Ellen. He enjoyed scratch lottery tickets and had a certain time each day set aside to scratch those tickets. He was a collector of many things and quite enjoyed if someone travelled and brought him back different currencies or souvenirs from different places. It was his way of visiting different places when his health did not allow him to travel.
Eugene enjoyed visiting with family and friend. He anxiously awaited all his siblings to come and visit and couldn’t wait until the next time they came back.
Recently the last two years Eugene had moved in Long Term Care. He first visited the Invermay Long Term Care Facility and then moved to the Preeceville Long Term Care Facility. He made many friends with the nurses and caregivers there and always had a smile for them
Eugene is predeceased by his parents, Pete and Mary and a brother Benny. He is survived by his brother Russell(Olga) Kitzan, brother Bill (Carol) Kitzan, sister Nettie (Ralph) Kitzan, sister Helen Filiplic, brother Orest (Susan) Kitzan, and sister Lorrie (Larry) Dunbar, many nieces and nephews, family members and friends.
