Mrs. Heather Giesbrecht beloved wife of Garry Giesbrecht of Stenen, formerly of the Sturgis district passed away on Saturday, March 10, 2018 at the Yorkton and District Nursing Home. She was seventy-one years of age.
Heather Gail Giesbrecht was born on September 10, 1946 in Swift Current, Saskatchewan. A daughter of Adam and Annie (nee Weins) Untereiner.
Heather grew up in Southern Saskatchewan in a large family consisting of five girls and three boys. She was the youngest of the eight children: Wilma, Gerry, Bernice, Ron, Patsy, Marlene, Larry and Heather.
When Heather was born, a Scottish nurse named her Heather Gail, the sisters didn’t like it and decided her to be named Dorothy Maie. Heather Gail stuck.
Heather received her high school diploma in Wymark. After high school, she got a job in Swift Current at Woolworths and later at BYERs shoe store.
On July 23, 1966, Heather married the love of her life Garry Giesbrecht. Heather and Garry started their courtship when Heather was only 13 and together they remained.
Heather and Garry lived in Swift Current for first year where Garry worked for Mobile Oil. Michael was born on January 2, 1969 and in October they moved to Rush Lake and became the owners of the Pioneer Hotel. Their second son, Lonny, was born in September of 1971, a tiny 2 lb 14 oz baby. Later the family moved to the Sturgis district where they farmed and raised their family. Heather always enjoyed gardening, baking, decorating special things and collecting dolls. She especially always loved and enjoyed her cats. Heather and Garry travelled many places together in their motor home. A highlight was the many times they went to see her sister in Oregon. Heather enjoyed the motor home as she could always take their cat Ringo Star along as part of the family.
Heather leaves to cherish her memory, her beloved husband, Garry; her son, Michael; her two sisters, Marlene Heibert and Bernice Simmie; three brothers, Larry, Ronald and Gerald Untereiner as well as numerous nieces and nephews, relatives and friends.
She was predeceased by her parents, Adam and Annie (nee Weins) Untereiner, her son Lonny Giesbrecht, her sisters, Wilma Christie, and Pat Olson.
