Laverna Swanson of Preeceville passed away at the Preeceville and District Health Centre at the age of 83. Laverna Selma Swanson was born on the family farm in Preeceville SK to Martin and Anna (nee Saugmyhr) Swanson.
After attending Checkow School Laverna travelled east to to Ontario and Manitoba to find adventure and work. She returned to the Preeceville area later in life to raise her children. Aside from raising a family, Laverna had a great faith and appreciation in the Lutheran Church, enjoyed music, gardening and knitting.
She is survived by her son, George; three daughters, Gisele (Ace), Michelle and Myrna; grandchildren, Heath, Chad, Brodie, Shayla, Taylor, Jordan and Macy; two great grandsons, Tristin and Benjamin; her sisters, Elsie and Ilyn; brother, Alex and their families.
Laverna was predeceased by her parents, Martin and Anna; her son, Martin; and two daughters, Ellen and Melody; her brothers and sisters, Frank, Edna, Thelma, Jack and Malcolm.
Laverna was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend. She will be greatly missed.
A Funeral Service was held on Thursday, February 22, 2018 at 2:00 pm from St. John’s Lutheran Church in Preeceville with Pastor Hein Bertram officiating.
Words of Remembrance were shared by Michelle McKenzie. The Honourary Bearers were all of those that loved and shared in Laverna’s life.
The Interment took place at Preeceville Community Cemetery with Lynnel Person, Lou Roste, Les Kozloski, Craig Sandager, Garth Harris, Grant Russell serving as the casketbearers. Memorials in memory of Laverna may be made to St. John’s Lutheran Church or to the Preeceville and District Health Centre Auxillary as gifts of remembrance.
