Lucy was born on August 17, 1932 to Bill & Mary (nee Owchar) Kiowski in the Hazel Dell area. She attended school at Sunnybrae where she completed Grade 8. Her first job was as a waitress at a café in Preeceville. It was there that she met her future husband Steve Blahay. Lucy & Steve were married on Oct 27, 1950 in a ceremony in Preeceville. Their first home together was on the Blahay homestead in the Chechow district. It was there that their first child Gerald was born in 1951. After their second son Dale was born in 1953, they moved into town where they remained their entire lives. They were blessed with a third child, Bob, in 1968.
Lucy held several jobs in and around Preeceville as a care aid, baker, cook, and restaurant owner. Her most treasured job was “Mom” and “Baba”. She proudly took care of the kids doing everything from babysitting to driving, cheering at sports events, sewing and cooking. Even as the grandchildren became adults, right until Lucy’s last days, they were sent home with care packages of perogies, cabbage rolls, buns, brownies, quilts, and so much more.
Lucy’s hobbies included preparing big family meals, baking, sewing, and gardening. She took interest in the birds and animals that visited her large vegetable and flower gardens as well. She liked going for drives and stopping to pick mushrooms or berries.
She is predeceased by her husband Steve, son Gerald, parents Bill and Mary, her father-in-law Danelo and mother-in-law Anna, brothers Mike, Victor and Orest, and her sister Elsie. Lucy is survived by her sons Dale and Bob, daughter-in-law Judy, and sister Olga.
