Marion Peter Firomski

August 29, 1934 ~ August 27, 2017 (age 82) 82 Years Old


FIROMSKI -  Marion Firomski, beloved husband of Caroline of Churchbridge, formerly of the Whitebeech and Sturgis districts passed away peacefully on August 27th 2017 at the Langenburg Centennial Special Care Home.  He was 82 years of age. Marion Peter Firomski was born August 29, 1934 to Joseph and Mary (Nee Lozinski) Firomski on the family farm north east of Sturgis. He attended Kopje school for three years and the Goodhue school where he completed his grade eight. During his teen years, Marion helped on the family farm and for his cousin custom threshing and logging/saw mill. He later worked for the CN railway from 1954-59. In 1956, he purchased farm land five miles west of Whitebeech from his grandfather Vincenty Lozinski. He started farming this land on his own in 1958. In 1963, he sold that farm land and purchased the farm which is the families homestead now north of Whitebeech. He was united in marriage to Caroline Cheremkora on October 18th, 1963, where they ran a mixed farm and raised six children. During Marion’s 49 years on the farm he also had numerous jobs, driving school bus, road construction and stock piling of gravel, taxi driver/ gas attendant. The family operated a pony ring for nine years going to sport days, church picnics, rodeos, country festivals and where ever they were asked to go. Where the kids could enjoy the ponies. He enjoyed playing ball, volunteering at ski-doo derbies, he helped raise money for the building and the operation of the Whitebeech outdoor rink. Marion was also involved as a volunteer in many clubs in Whitebeech, Arran and area. Marion was always willing to help neighbors whenever needed. Marion was so proud of all his children and grandchildren. He would tell anyone and everyone about what they were doing and all the things the kids and grandkids would do on the farm with him. From working around the barn with the animals or teaching how to ride horse, drive the tractor, change a tire, check oil, haul water to the house, picking mushrooms and berries. You could find him at the grandchildren’s events from school activities, Ukrainian dancing, dance concerts, baseball, hockey, football, soccer games, figure skating carnivals, air cadets events. He would be there even if he had other things to do. He would drop what he was doing and go see what the grandkids were up to. Marion was always on top of family and close friend’s birthdays and anniversaries. He would say “Caroline phone, I can’t with these big fingers.”  In 2010, they purchased their retirement home in Churchbridge were Caroline still resides. In 2015 Marion become ill and was in need of specialized care, he spent his final two years at the Langenburg Centennial Special Care Home, where he passed peacefully on August 27, 2017 with his loving wife by his side.

     Marion leaves to celebrate his life. His loving wife, Caroline; four children, Donald (Terrina) Firomski, Kathleen (Bob) Thompson, Jay (Marg) Firomski and Bonnie (Gerratt) Munson; grandchildren, Curtis Firomski (Erin Murphy), Corissa (Adam) Milne, Rebecca and Annie Firomski, Ryley (Ashley) Thompson, Dylaney, Cally Thompson, Nicholas, Wyatt, Walker, Bailey Munson, Miranda Firomski; great grandchildren Chaz and Zoey Milne, Elizabeth Murphy, Samantha, Wyatt, Wylie Thompson; sisters, Lila (William) Cherniawsky, Jeannette Cheremkora; brothers, Victor (Mildred) Firomski, Delmar (Marianne) Firomski and Donald Hryhorash; and numerous nieces and nephews; sister-in-laws, Julie Sutherland, Joan (Gerald) Gossen and Olga Cheremkora. Predeceased by his parents Joseph and Mary Firomski; his step mother, Sophie Firomski; his sons, Ronald and Norman; daughter in law, Connie Firomski; brother-in law Sam Cheremkora; sister-in law Mavis Hryhorash and his mother and father in law, Paul and Annie Cheremkora.

Gone but never Forgotten, Always in our hearts.

Prayers were held on Friday, September 1st 2017 and the Funeral Mass was celebrated on Saturday, September 2nd 2017, all from St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church in Sturgis.  Rev. Fr. Michal Pajak, OMI was the Celebrant. The crossbearer was Corissa Milne, the Lectors were Kathy Lukey and Angela Hutchinson, the eulogist was Bob Thomspon.  The hymns were ‘How Great Thou Art’, ‘Amazing Grace’, ‘Immaculate Mary’ and ‘Be Not Afraid’.  The interment took place in St. Patrick’s RC Parish Cemetery with Curtis Firomski, Ryley, Dylaney & Cally Thompson, and Nicholas, Wyatt, Walker & Bailey Munson serving as the casketbearers. Memorials to St. Patrick’s Cemetery Fund, or to the Langenburg Centennial care Home would be appreciated by the family.  The funeral arrangements were entrusted to Preeceville Funeral Home.
