Mark Richard Babiuk

BABIUK –  Mark Babiuk beloved husband of Bernadette Babiuk of Sturgis passed away on January 26, 2018.

     Mark Babiuk was born on April 14, 1949, in Sturgis, Saskatchewan to John and Elizabeth (nee Nahnybida) Babiuk. Mark grew up in a family of thirteen. He had six brothers - Michael, William (Ruth), Terry (Anne), Ben (Nancy), John (Yvonne), Carl (Jean) and six sisters – Nel (Bernie), Lucille (Frank), Mary (Allen), Lovitte, Hope (Ron),and Theresa.

 
     Mark went to school in Sturgis and after school worked several jobs. One job of most importance (all be it not known to Mark at the time) was a school bus driver. This is where he conveniently made the Fullawka farm the last stop of his run so that he could visit the farm animals was his excuse. This is where he met the love of his life, Bernadette. They would marry on October 29, 1988. Together they would remain an active part in the Sturgis community and had two boys, Chad and Tyson.

     Mark worked for over 15 years at the Sturgis bus garage with his brother Carl. From there he worked another 15 years as a maintenance supervisor at the Preeceville Lions hostel.

     Mark was an excellent hockey player and also loved playing pool, fishing, camping, mechanical “tinkering”, and family gatherings. Most of all, Mark was very active and supportive in whatever his two boys were into at any given time which could change daily. In 2011 Mark and Bernadette suffered the tragic loss of their son Chad in a vehicle accident.

     Mark was always one to light up a room or crack a joke. No matter who you were Mark could always be seen coming up to a total stranger and making conversation. From his many hours working on other people’s quads in his garage to visits to the local coffee shop everyone knew who Mark Babiuk was.

Mark will be truly missed by all who knew him.

     An evening prayer service and visitation was held on Tuesday, January 30, 2018 from the Chapel of Preeceville Funeral Home. A family interment service followed in the Sturgis Community Cemetery with Rev. Mile Russell of Grace United Church officiating. Bernadette Babiuk served as the urn bearer.

     Memorials in memory of Mark may be made to the Dialysis Program at the Yorkton Regional Heath Centre as gifts of remembrance. Condolences can be sent to the family at preecevillefunerahome.com
