Mike Kosheluk Obituary

KOSHELUK - Mike Kosheluk, husband of the late Gena Kosheluk, passed away on Sunday, October 13, 2019 in the Preeceville Long Term Care Centre. He was eighty-seven years of age.   Mike was born March 6, 1932, to parents Wasyl and Dora (Prystay) Kosheluk on the homestead of SE 15-34-6 in the Hryhoriw District.  The family later moved to SE 19-33-5 where Mike then attended Monastyr School.

On November 25, 1952, he married Gena Yacyshyn with whom he raised 5 children.  Together they purchased NE and SE 7-33-5 from Gena’s parents and calling this home, they farmed here until Gena’s passing on October 20, 2016, when shortly after Mike moved into the Preeceville Personal Care Home. Mike enjoyed music and played accordion with The Parklanders Band at dances and weddings with Gena often singing at his side.  He often tested Gena’s patience with the fiddle and kept a harmonica in his pocket until the end.  He always enjoyed visiting and playing a few tunes with his friends.  Mike bought many instruments for his children and grandchildren over the years, and was very, very proud when Kortney, Kelsey, and Kennedy started Crooked Hill Creek, saying that they took after their Gedo.

Mike was also an accomplished harness maker and toy builder, spending many hours in the basement listening to the radio or Ukrainian music while he worked.  Horses were a big part of his life, so good harness was needed for the chore team and fancy harness for parades or just needed to make them look good.  The toys were mostly replicas of horse drawn implements and were given to his children and grandchildren.

Mike was the youngest of seven children, and was predeceased by his wife Gena, his parents Wasyl and Dora; wife Gena and siblings Tena in infancy, John, Lena, Tillie, Mary, and Julia.

He is survived by his children: JoAnne Belesky and sons Wayne (Corisa) and Ryan; Carol (Ron) Nimetz and sons Cory (Hong) and Sheldon (Jodie); Gale Kosheluk; Kevin (Karolyn) Kosheluk and children Kortney, Kelsey, and Kennedy; and Kim (Stan) Hladun and sons Skyler (Joy) and Justin. Mike has six great grandchildren: Taylor, Graison, Nicholai, and Emily Belesky, and Mikaela and Tyson Nimetz.

He is also survived by his brother in law Victor (Evelyn) Yacyshyn and sister in law Bernice Antoniuk and many nieces and nephews.

  He will be dearly missed.
