Rosie (Chernowchan) Karcha

Rosie was born on May 14, 1925 to Fred and Mary (nee Loziak) Chernowchan at home in Endeavour, Saskatchewan. She was the seventh of eight children. She attended school at Usherville School and later Bear school.

Rosie met Peter Karcha at Brookview school picnic in 1944, it was love at first sight and the couple was married two months later on November 12 of that year. Together they farmed east of Lady Lake and worked in the bush during the winter months.

During their married life of almost 41 years they were blessed with seven children Adam, Marjorie, Jerry, Eugene, Dianne, Wayne, and Ken which all still reside in the Preeceville area with the exception of Marjorie who lives in Regina and Dianne who passed away in 2007.

Rosie and Peter remained on the farm until Peter’s passing in June of 1985 when Rosie moved to Preeceville in the fall of the same year.

Rosie enjoyed going to bingo and bowling with her good friend Mary Gregory as well as knitting socks and mittens for all her grandchildren, reading the Bible while watching T.V. She also enjoyed making buns, perogies, and pickles. She bowled with the same team of ladies until her health forced her to quit. One of her favorite times was the weekly Sunday dinners with her children, also Christmas Eve and Easter get-togethers.

She remained living on her own until 2011 when she was no longer able to care for herself. She went to live in a personal care home in Kamsack and later to the care home in Preeceville where she was the first resident when they opened the doors. As her health started to fail she was moved to Preeceville Nursing Home where she resided until her passing on May 23rd at the age of 94.

Rosie is predeceased by her parents Fred and Mary Chernowchan; her brothers Bill, Steve, Alex and Mike; her sisters Sophie, Annie, Polly; daughter Dianne; granddaughter Wanda and son in law Harry (Marjorie).

She is survived by her children Adam (Linda), Marjorie, Jerry (Jinnie), Eugene (Gail), Wayne (Tracy) and Ken (Karen); son in law Chris; twenty-one grandchildren; twenty great grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren as well as numerous nephews and nieces.

Mrs. Rosie Karcha of Preeceville, Sk, widow of Peter Karcha passed away on Thursday May 23, 2019 at the age of 94 years. Funeral Service was be held on Tuesday May 28 at 2:00 p.m. from the Chapel of Preeceville Funeral Home. The interment followed in the St. Demetrius Cemetery. Memorials in memory of Rosie my be made to Preeceville Hospital Long-term Auxiliary as gifts of remembrance .
