Stella Moss Obituary

MOSS – Stella Moss wife of the Late Max Moss of the Preeceville and District Long Term Care Centre, passed away peacefully on May 12, 2018 at the age of ninety eight years.

Stella Marcella Moss was born on March 17, 1920 on the family farm at Endeavour to Peter and Anna (nee Yurkiw) Greba.

Being one of twelve children she grew up on the farm helping with the raising of younger siblings and outdoor chores which involved the milking of twenty-two cows.

Stella attended school until grade eight when twin brothers were born and that meant more time spent at home. She moved off the farm in her early twenties and worked as a waitress in Moose Jaw. She met and married Roland Dubois in 1945 and daughter Susan was born in 1950 in Lachine, Que. Stella made many moves while Roland served in the Air Force. Stella was divorced in the late sixties and raised her daughter as a single parent in Calgary. She was very proud to receive the Calgary Waitress of the Year Award in 1967.

Stella married Max Moss in 1973, they relocated to Coquitlam, B.C. for a brief time and then due to Stella’s mother’s illness moved back to Endeavour.

Several years later Max’s declining health required them to move to Saskatoon and eventually they did return to Preeceville to settle, which made Stella happy to return closer to her roots.

They both became proud members of the Canadian Legion in Sturgis. Stella became a life time member of Saint Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church and the CWL.  She loved her church associates, family, friends and a good game of cribbage.

As her health failed she entered the Preeceville Care Home and then Long Term Care where she passed away peacefully on May 12, 2018.

Predeceased by her parents, Peter and Anna, Roland Dubois, husband Max Moss, son-in-law Glenn Harris (Susan), brothers, Ernest, Adam, Tony, Joe and John, sisters Emily Jason, Eva Bryk and Gladys Trempe.

Survived and sadly missed by daughter Susan, brother Andy, sisters Helen Wiwcharuk, Martha Gibbons, step-children, step-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Stella’s daughter, Susan would like to thank the Preeceville Care Home and Preeceville Long Term Care for the care and kindness given to her mother Stella. Much love and gratitude to Crystal Romanchuk for invaluable help with loving care given to Mom over the years and with the  funeral arrangements.

Funeral Mass was celebrated on Friday, May 18, 2018 at St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church in Sturgis with Rev. Fr. Andrew Sowa, O.M.I. officiating. Interment followed in St. Mary’s Cemetery in the Endeavour district with Russell, Teresa  and Kyle Greba, Brad , Crystal and Jason Romanchuk serving as the casketbearers. Honourary bearers were all of Stella’s friends and church family.
