Adrien Larrivee, beloved husband of the late Eileen Larrivee, (Gunderson) of the Ketchen District, passed away on Monday, August 18, 2025. He was 91 years of age.
Adrien Joseph Larrivee was born on November 15, 1933, to Louis and Georgiana Larrivee in Cochrane, Ontario. He had three brothers and five sisters.
When Adrien was 17 years old, he went with his brother, Fern, to apply to join the Air Force. Adrien was accepted and Fern was denied. When Adrien was 18, he officially joined the Air Force. Throughout his career, Adrien was a navigator on search and rescue helicopters. Adrien was first posted at Calgary, AB, and then was moved to Comox, BC, then Base Valcartier, QC, then Edmonton, AB. His last posting was in Moose Jaw, SK, where he officially retired in 1983. Adrien loved the Air Force so much that he remained on the base in Moose Jaw and worked for three more years after his retirement.
Throughout his career he had many adventures and saw much of the world. While Adrien was posted to Comox, he was deployed to Egypt for a year on a peace keeping mission.
During his travels he met the love of his life, Eileen Gunderson and her daughter, Ethel. Adrien and Eileen were married in 1971. During the summers, Adrien would get time off and would take Eileen and Ethel on holidays throughout the United States. They would travel, by car, to many different locations and saw everything from Disneyland, Yellow Stone, The Redwood Forest and Nashville. They would travel to see relatives in Wisconsin, North Dakota and Ontario, where Adrien’s family lived.
Adrien was a dedicated Legion Member, and Cadet Leader. He faithfully attended the Lutheran Church in Preeceville.
Adrien and Eileen loved life on the farm. Adrien had his cattle and Eileen had her chickens and her garden. They enjoyed socializing with neighbors and friends. Farm life kept them busy with the day-to-day chores.
On February 28, 2019, Eileen passed away. Once Adrien moved to the farm, like the Air Force, he had a hard time leaving. Adrien remained on the farm until July of 2025, when he moved into the Preeceville Personal Care Home.
Adrien was predeceased by his wife, Eileen; parents, Louis and Georgiana; siblings, Lucien, Irene, Gabrielle, Fern and Rita.
Left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Ethel (Serge) Tremblay; grandchildren, Steven (his wife Amanda and their children, Austin, Xander, Ethan and Caden); Jason (his wife Brittany and their children Kaison and Emmerson); and Debbie (her husband Mike and their children Logan, Tatum, Kacianne and Megan).
The Funeral Service was held on August 25, 2025, from St. John Lutheran Church, in Preeceville, SK with Pastor Hein Bertram officiating. Joanne Sorestad played the piano for the hymns “Amazing Grace”, “All to Jesus I Surrender”, “The Old Rugged Cross” and “What A Friend We Have in Jesus”. Ethel Tremblay shared special memories of her dad. Steven Tremblay, Jason Tremblay, Leon Sill, Bill Lesko, Blaine Medlang and Darwin Chalupiak served as casketbearers. Interment followed in the Poplar Grove Cemetery where members of the Royal Canadian Legion, Preeceville, Branch #188, formed an honour guard and performed the Legion Tribute Service. Bill Lesko served as the Padre and Pastor Hein Bertram, as the Bugler.
