Agnes Smith Obituary

The family of Mrs. Agnes Smith (nee Rosenkerr), wife to the late John Smith, of Delta, BC, sadly announce her passing on Tuesday, July 2, 2024.She was 89 years of age.

A Graveside Service to celebrate the life of both Agnes and John, who passed away on November 10, 2022, was held on Monday, July 22 at Poplar Grove Cemetery East of Preeceville.

Memorials in memory of Agnes and John Smith may be made to the Poplar Grove Cemetery as gifts of remembrance.

Agnes Smith (Rosenkerr) was born on the family farm in the Robinson Creek District on December 7, 1934. She was the second child of George and Loretta Rosenkerr. She shared her birthday with her youngest brother, Don and her nephew, Allen. Agnes attended the Robinson Creek School until she quit at the age of 17 to move to Yorkton to help support her sister Louise as she finished high school and Normal School. She then moved to Calgary where she met and married John Clare Smith on July 17, 1959.

John Clare Smith was born in Welwyn, SK, on May 22, 1934. He is the oldest son of Aleena and John Smith. John worked as a mechanic and Agnes worked in the hospital. They led active lives which included sports and stock car races; Agnes in the powder puff and John in the main event.

From Calgary, they moved to Kelowna and then to the lower mainland. They finally settled in Delta, BC. John worked as an Elevator Technician until he retired. In his spare time and after his retirement he rebuilt vehicles in his garage and participated in sports. Agnes also took part in many sports including tennis, golf, curling, and ball. She spent her time volunteering at many sporting events as well as at the hospital. Agnes loved travelling with friends. Her and John travelled by RV to many locations in Canada and the US. One of Agnes’ last trips was an Alaska Cruise with Loretta, Rae and Dorothy.

Family was very important to Agnes. She travelled to Saskatchewan most summers to visit with family and friends. She also spent a lot of time with her sister, Elna, and her family in Vernon. She always had her door open for any family that came to visit. She was always excited to show them the sights.

John passed away on November 10, 2022 in White Rock, BC. After his passing Agnes moved to a care home in Wynyard and lived next door to her sister, Loretta, for the last 9 months of her life. She passed away on July 2, 2024 in Wynyard, SK.

Agnes is predeceased by her parents, George and Loretta; brothers, Lloyd, Norman, Eugene and Don; sister, Lousie; brother-in-law, Elmer; sister-in-law, Edna; nephew, Marvin and great-nephews, Casey and Jed Rosenkerr and great-niece, Connie Alley.

She is survived by sister, Elna Zachery and Loretta Rosenkerr; brother, Rae (Dorothy) and 23 nieces and nephews and many, many great-nephews and nieces.

John is predeceased by his parent, Aleena and John; brother, Donald Ross.

He is survived by his sister, Doreen Mackenzie; sister-in-law, Paula; nephews, Scott Mackenzie (Deirdre)and Todd Mackenzie (Lori); nieces, Mary-Ellen (Rod) Jones and Debbie Mackenzie and great nieces and nephews.
