Welcome to the memorial page for

Albert Elias Folwark

June 28, 1927 ~ March 8, 2017 (age 89) 89 Years Old

. Mr. Albert Elias Folwark passed away quietly on March 8, 2017 in the Crocus Court Nursing Home in Roblin, Manitoba.

He was the ninth child of fifteen. He was raised on the family farm. He took his education at the Lillian Rural School by Endeavour. He helped his Mom and Dad on the farm as he was growing up. At the age of sixteen Albert, along with six other young boys went to Regina and got a job building fences for ranchers in Lethbridge, Alberta. They rode in the back of a truck to get there and worked hard for very little pay. He then got a job with George Moruk in Regina doing cementing and masonry. Over the years he did many a chimney in the areas where he lived.

Albert then worked for a lumber company in Regina where he bought a three ton flatbed truck and came to the Danbury district to farm. He farmed and helped his brother John at John’s sawmill east of Endeavour. He hauled lumber to Preeceville for John with his 1949 truck and trailer. He met Irene Krywy in Danbury where she was raised and they were married June 8, 1952. They moved to Endeavour where Albert worked in the bush cutting trees by hand with a sweet saw, there were no chain saws. Albert then set up his own sawmill and made a living that way for a while. They were blessed with their first daughter Lucille November 8, 1953 and then another daughter Bernadette Crystal Rose Nov 5, 1958.

Albert got a job at Swiderskiy Junction Lumber Company in Preeceville where he hauled lumber to Winnipeg, Manitoba. He then took a job with Preeceville CCIL as a mechanic. In 1968 Albert took a transfer to Roblin CCIL where he worked for some years. He then worked at Gabers White farm equipment in Roblin. Over all these years as a mechanic he became so very good at doing mechanic work that many a farmer asked him to come out to their farm to do fixing. The farmer would take his tractor apart then ask Albert to come fix it. What Albert saw was a jigsaw puzzle of tractor pieces. He had no trouble putting the machine whatever kind it was back together. He enjoyed gardening with Irene and they put up a lot of jars of pickles and fruit. He enjoyed any time he could be fixing a motor of any kind. His last seventeen years of work were at the Golf Course in Roblin as mechanic to the carts and greens keeper. He said those were the best working years. He was his own boss, could do his work as it worked out for him. This gave him time to come out to Endeavour where he stayed with his nephew and they would go out to his farm and do some logging and sawing. He especially liked that he could go to Winnipeg when he was needed or just for a visit as he not only had his daughters but had a special little man to visit. His grandson Dez born January 12, 1994. He was Albert’s pride and joy along with his daughters. Albert enjoyed any time spent with his family and friends. He had so many experiences to call on for stories to be told at these visits.

The last few years of his life were spent first in the Roblin hospital for a few months then at the Crocus Court Nursing Home in Roblin where his gentle nature and sense of humor soon made him a favorite among the staff. Albert enjoyed playing the violin and harmonica. He played his harmonica for the staff and for his family when we came to visit.

His smile and laughter and many stories will be sadly missed by all

Funeral Services for Albert were held on March 14, 2017 from the chapel at Preeceville Funeral Home with Father Michael Faryna presiding. Interment followed at Saint Mary's Orthodox Parish Cemetery in Endeavour.
