FEDERUIK – Alice Gladys passed away on January 12, 2022 at the age of 80 years. She was born in Hudson Bay, Saskatchewan in 1941 to Sam and Katie (nee Malenchuk) Rehaluk. She had three older sisters: Diane, Rose and Sophie and worked on the family farm during her youth. She met her lifelong partner, George Michael Federuik, in 1957. They married and settled four miles north of Sturgis and had six sons together: Randal (Judith), Timothy, Thomas, Mark (Michele), Christopher (Caroline) and George (Susie).
Alice had tremendous love for God and Family. She consistently showed her faith by leading her family to Church and in prayers regularly her entire life. Alice not only prayed for family and situation, but also for strangers around the world. She would lead her family in Church festivals and meals with an emphasis on Christmas, Good Friday and Easter. As well, she volunteered for several years with the Sturgis Holy Trinity Church Women’s Auxiliary.
Alice’s grandchildren were one of her greatest joys. She spent many ours babysitting and teaching them the importance of all of the Ukrainian traditions. Pets and animals were also an important part of her life. Apart from the obvious Cows, Chickens, Ducks and Geese, it was not unusual to have a large number of Barn cats occupy the building at any given time. Strays and anonymous ‘drop-offs’ would not be turned away and all had a second chance at life at their new home. Closest to her were her personal house pets who, through the years, enjoyed a certain degree of luxury with an endless supply of Love, Food and attention.
She had an amazing work ethic and ran the day-to-day Dairy business with her family. She worked tirelessly raising her children, paying the bills, managing a large vegetable garden during the Summer and various Church activities. She always made time for family even if it meant sacrificing her personal time and energy.
Alice was predeceased by her son, Randal in 2013.
The Funeral Service was held on January 17, 2022 in Holy Trinity Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Sturgis, SK with Rev. Father Petro Tsenov officiating. The cantor was Zenovia Duch and the cross bearer was Kaileb Federuik. The interment followed in the Sturgis Community Cemetery with Tim Federuik, Mark Federuik, Chris Federuik, George Federuik, Joey Federuik and Heather Federuik serving as casket-bearers. Memorial donations in memory of Alice may be made to the Holy Trinity Ukrainian Orthodox Church as gifts of remembrance. Messages of condolence may be shared at preecevillefuneralhome.com.
