Alvin Romanchuk Obituary

Alvin Dale Romanchuk, beloved husband of Debbie Romanchuk, passed away peacefully at home on Friday February 23, 2018 at the age of sixty-seven years.

Alvin was born in the Preeceville Union Hospital on July 29, 1950.  His childhood days were spent on the farm where he, along with his brother and sister grew up.  He went to school in Endeavour and then to Sturgis Composite School until he gradated in 1969.

After school Alvin worked at the Smelter in Thompson Manitoba for Inco.  In 1971 – 1972 he worked for Johnson & Herbert cutting seismic lines at Fox Creek and Edson, Alberta.  In 1973 he and Debbie were married and together they moved to Yorkton, where Alvin worked for Carter Ace Plumbing and Heating.  After a year in Yorkton, Alvin and Debbie moved back to Endeavour where they bought a house and he enrolled in a bookkeeping correspondence course under the guidance of his late Uncle Paul Karcha.

In 1974 Alvin began his logging career working for John Palaniuk Logging.  Then in 1976 he bought his first two skidders from John and he subcontracted for numerous logging contractors. 1976 was also the year that Alvin and Debbie had their first-born daughter Jolene. In 1979 Alvin and Debbie moved to the farm and took over farming operations and throughout the years continued to expand their family which consisted of their 4 daughters, Jolene, Misty, April and Kristin and one son Michael.   As the years progressed, Alvin expanded his farming and logging operations (Romanchuk & Son Logging and Lumber) as well as experimented with other ventures, such as a sawmill operation, a fruit truck venture, and gravel hauling.  Alvin would give anything a go, he was a hardworking man who was not afraid to take risks.   Alvin employed many different people including friends, his son Michael, his daughter April, his brother, his nephews, his brother in-law and his now son-in-law Chad.  In 2005 Alvin started oilfield trucking operations up until 2010 when he fell victim to a stroke. Alvin continued running his trucking operation in the oilfield business from his wheelchair for a few more years until he decided he could no longer continue.

Alvin loved the outdoors.  He loved his fishing trips and Big Game Hunting.  He enjoyed using the camera, wiener roasts with his family and friends, pulling out the guitar and singing a few tunes, driving the backroads and especially the bush where he made his living.  But most of all Alvin enjoyed his grandchildren, each one of them held a special place in Geido’s heart.

The coffee pot was always on, and Alvin loved to keep in touch with his family and friends with telephone conversations and visits catching up with everyone. His excursions on his Big Red Honda three-wheeler and his scooter were very important and enjoyable to him.

Alvin will be missed by all who knew him; he was a unique man who once you met him, you never forgot him.

Alvin was pre-deceased by his parents Joe and Tena Romanchuk (Karcha).

He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife Debbie (Czornobay). His children, Jolene (Chad, Riley), Misty (Jason, Jasmine, Allison, Bailey, Cheyenne), April (Calvin, Lalen), Kristin (Greg, Emma, Morgan) and Michael (Jaylynn). His siblings, sister Cheryl (Dale) Strelezki, brother Brad (Crystal) Romanchuk; nephews and nieces and all his friends and acquaintances.

The Funeral Service  was held on Wednesday afternoon February 28, 2018 from the Chapel of Preeceville  Home with Rev. Barbara Forsyth of ST. James Anglican Church officiating.  The organist was Debbie Blender leading the congregation in the Hymns: “What A Friend We Have In Jesus”, “Amazing Grace” and “Softly And Tenderly”.  The eulogy and words of remembrance were given by Brad Romanchuk, Russell Greba and Kristin Olson.  The interment followed the service at ST. Mary’s Cemetery with Debra Romanchuk serving as Urn Bearer and all of Alvin’s loving family as Honourary Bearers.  Memorial Donations may be made to the M.S. Society, Sask.
