Annie Secondiak Obituary

Mrs. Annie Secondiak (nee Tokarchuk) was born on January 13th, 1925 to Paul & Julia (nee: Kukura) Tokarchuk on the family farm near Rama, Saskatchewan. It was hard work on the farm. There was no running water and no power. Chores had to be done first thing every morning before walking 3 1/2 miles to attend school in Rama. Annie finished her grade 9, then stayed home to help her parents with farming. She was a very good seamstress and sewed most of the clothes for the family, without even using a pattern. She helped her mom with cooking, cleaning, gardening, canning, and so on. She married Paul Secondiak on July 15th, 1945. They raised 5 children. They farmed the family homestead near Buchanan, till they moved to Hyas in 1948. They owned the General Store from 1948-1971, when they moved to Preeceville. They ran the theatre there for a few years. In 1971, she started working at the Lion’s Hostel as a general staff. She eventually became a full time cook there until she retired in 1988. In August of 2009, she independently made the decision to move to an assisted living facility in Yorkton. She enjoyed her stay there till she moved to Preeceville Personal Care Home in December, 2019. It was the same building where she used to work! For health reasons, she moved into the Long Term Care facility in Norquay in September of 2020, where she very much enjoyed the remainder of her life. Throughout her life, she enjoyed curling, gardening,(especially her award winning flowers), cooking, playing cards, working with the Ukrainian Catholic Ladies Club, and her family! She loved her family and was so proud of the people they became.

She is predeceased by her parents, nine siblings, and her husband Paul in November, 2003.

She will be lovingly remembered by her children: Evelyn (Laurie) Sianchuk, Loretta Secondiak, Ed (Carol) Secondiak, Terry (Cheryl) Secondiak, and Teresa (Andrew) Chupik. Her one remaining sister, Genevieve Borys. Her eight grandchildren, and ten great grandchildren, and all her nieces and nephews.

A Funeral Liturgy was held on Monday, November 28, 2022 at Holy Transfiguration Ukrainian Catholic Church in Preeceville, with Rev. Fr. Joakim Rac officiating. Annie’s daughter, Teresa read the Eulogy. Interment followed in the Holy Transfiguration Ukrainian Catholic Parish Cemetery.

Memorials in memory of Annie may be made to the Norquay Health Centre, Resident Council, Box 190, Norquay, SK, S0A 2V0, or Holy Transfiguration Ukrainian Catholic Parish, Box 402, Preeceville, SK, S0A 3B0 as gifts of remembrance.
