Brian Masley Obituary

Brian Morris Masley was born on May 11, 1953, in Yorkton, to Morris and Mary (Prekaski) Masley. Brian was the second oldest among his four siblings, Wade, Debbie, Craig and Perry.

Brian grew up on the family farm north of Sturgis with his mom and dad, Baba and Gido and his four siblings. Gido was a cattle farmer and Brian learned hard work at a young age. On this large farm, Brian also learned to prank his siblings. He was known to hide, just waiting to scare someone or pull a good prank!

Brian graduated from Sturgis Composite High School then went to work at the mill in Prince Rupert, B.C. He then returned to “Good Old Sturgis” and married his High School Sweetheart, Lillian Martyn on April 14, 1972. Together they were blessed with a son, Kelly Derek Brian, in 1972, and a daughter, Kerrie Tanya, in 1976.

In 1972 Brian, Lil and Kelly moved to Thompson, Manitoba. Brian worked at Inco Mine and Lil at a shoe store. In 1974 the opportunity came to return to Sturgis to farm with his dad and brothers, Wade and Perry.

In 1979, Brian and Lil purchased a farm a few miles east of Sturgis. Soon after Brian decided to farm on his own.

In the winter months, Brian enjoyed snowmobiling and going on many poker derbies. He even did some snowmobile racing, coming out with a first-place win. During the winter he also enjoyed trapping.

Brian’s love for wildlife was the motivation that led to raising elk. He really enjoyed being with the elk, especially the bottle-fed calf called Trouble. Trouble was very tame and was like the family pet. Brian’s passion for hunting, fishing and farming kept him busy on the phone discussing these topics with his friends. Brian was blessed to work in an area that he enjoyed so much, as talk of farming were some of his last words.

Brian enjoyed spending time with his family, especially fishing and hunting, as well as watching his grandkids play hockey! He was so proud of Kelly’s knowledge and interest in farming as well as Kerrie’s knowledge in financial services and planning. He always felt very blessed to have seven grandchildren, six boys and one girl, Carter (21), Brett (19), Kaiden (18), Bryker (17), Cole (16), Avery (13), and Bostin (13) were a great joy in his life!

Brian lost his battle with cancer on Monday, September 4, 2023, at the Pasqua Hospital in Regina with Lil by his side. He was 70 years old.

Brian will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Brian is predeceased by his parents, Morris and Mary Masley; grandparents, John and Allie Prekaski and Jocob and Anna Masley.

Left to mourn his loss are his wife of 51 years, Lillian; son, Kelly (Amanda) and their children, Carter, Kaiden, Cole and Avery; daughter, Kerrie (Croy) Smith and their children, Brett, Bryker and Bostin; brothers, Wade (Joan), Craig (Rebbie), and Perry (Shelly); sister, Debbie, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Friends and family have shared their relationship to show their support.
