Cheyenne Peterson Obituary

It with great sadness that the family of Cheyenne Peterson, cherished daughter of Misty Peterson and Jason Peterson, announce her passing on Wednesday, March 12, 2025, after a courageous battle with brain cancer.

A Service in Celebration of Cheyenne's life was held on Wednesday, March 19, 2025, from the Sturgis Community Hall.

Memorial donations may be made to the Yorkton SPCA (79 7th Ave S, Yorkton, SK, S3N 3V1) or to The Cure Starts Now (online or regular mail: 2595 Wilcox Terrace, Victoria BC, V8Z 7G5) to help find a cure for DIPG and other childhood cancers, as gifts of remembrance.

Cheyenne Macey Peterson was born on June 8, 2008, in Yorkton, SK and resided in Sturgis, SK until her passing on March 12, 2025.

Cheyenne attended Sturgis Composite School and was very active throughout the years. She loved sports and was involved in almost every sport available. In her younger years, Cheyenne took figure skating, lacrosse and cross country running. More recently her sports passions included track, basketball and baseball. You could find her shooting hoops or playing catch with whoever was willing. She was also very scholastic and when she set her mind to it, achieved high marks in every class. She was outgoing and was always surrounded by many friends.

Cheyenne loved the outdoors. She spent a lot of her summers at the Peterson cabin at Crystal Lake or camping with her mom at Good Spirit Lake. Here she spent many hours swimming, sunbathing, waterskiing, tubing and driving the sea doo! Summertime also meant cruising around with her friends listening to her favorite tunes, going to parties, and working at the Crystal Lake food truck.

Cheyenne loved travelling. Over the years she enjoyed family vacations to Hawaii, California and Alaska; numerous trips to visit family in Calgary, Winnipeg, Saskatoon and Victoria; and travelled for various treatments to Austria, Denver, New York and Seattle.

Our world changed forever on November 3rd, 2023 when Cheyenne was diagnosed with Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG) - Cancer of the brainstem. Cheyenne vowed she would live her best life and fight for a cure. Over the sixteen months since her diagnosis, Cheyenne endured 63 radiation sessions, 3 surgeries and numerous medical and holistic treatments. She spent a lot of time at the Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital in Saskatoon. She never ever complained and kept a positive attitude throughout this entire journey.

Cheyenne will be remembered for her fun-loving attitude, her twinkling blue eyes, and her laughter. She was an avid animal lover and was always thinking of others. Her sense of humor kept those around her laughing. She lit up any room she walked into and had definite confidence in her. She loved shopping, the latest makeup trends, doing endless Tik Toks, and spending time with her boyfriend who she adored. She was always ready for the next adventure in life.

Cheyenne will forever be loved and remembered by her parents: Jason (Delilah Cerniuk) Peterson and Misty (Kurt Toderash) Peterson; siblings: Jasmine (Cameron Halverson) Romanchuk, Allison Peterson, Bailey Peterson, Bryce (Janyne Frias) Dueck, Bria Dueck; boyfriend, Kimmuel Albarracin; nephew, Otto Halverson; Grandparents, Brian (Elaine) Peterson, Michelle Brown, Debbie Romanchuk; Aunties and Uncles, Jeff (Sandy) Peterson, Arin (Gareth) Jones, Jolene (Chad Wiwcharuk) Romanchuk, April (Calvin) Hovey, Kristin (Greg) Olson, Michael (Cassidy) Romanchuk; Cousins, Megan (Austin Strauss), Kylie, Henry, Emma, Riley, Morgan, Lalen; pet cats, Loki, Bear, Bean; dogs, Maui and Thor; and numerous extended family and friends.

Cheyenne was predeceased by her maternal grandfather, Alvin Romanchuk; paternal great-grandparents, Myrtle and Adrian Peterson; maternal great-grandmother, Tena Romanchuk; and her beloved cat, Buddy.

Cheyenne was adamant she wanted a 'Life Celebration' and not a 'funeral' as she said funerals were sad. She wanted a party filled with laughter and joy for everyone who loved her. We are happy to oblige her and encourage story sharing, smiles and happy tears. Guests are encouraged to wear pink, Cheyenne's favorite color.

Cheyenne - your vivacious energy and love for those around you will be felt today and always.
