Dennis Keith Mattison, son of Kenneth and Fern (nee Omit) Mattison passed away on October 13, 2019 at the Gateway Lodge care home in Canora.
Dennis was born on August 5, 1937 in Preeceville. After completing his education in Preeceville he took over his father’s bee keeping business. He remained in the business until retirement.
Dennis never married and his greatest companions were his dogs. He was an avid fisherman and hunter of many types of games. He also shot a great many bears who caused trouble with his bee hives. He was involved with cadets as a young man. At Dundurn camp he was the best shot out of 30 cadets. He took flying lessons at Yorkton and got his pilot’s licence. His ambition was to be a bush pilot, but was told there was a long list ahead of him. Dennis enjoyed his retirement years having coffee at the local café with his friends. When he was no longer able to drive, you would see him on his scooter.
Dennis was predeceased by his parents, Ken and Fern Mattison, his two sisters Doreen Mattison, and Sharon Mattision, his niece Darla Giannoulis, brother-in-law Bucky Pollock and several cousins, aunts and uncles.
Left to cherish his memory are sisters Dianne Pollock of Sturgis, Carol (John) Holizki of Briercrest, Laurel Mattison of Regina, brother-in-law Jerry Stefanyshyn of Preeceville and nieces Sharilee (Jim) Nichols, Melody Jones, Darlis Collinge, Sara (Todd) McMillan and nephews Kevin Jones, Jared Stefanyshyn and Tracey Biro.
Dennis had a great sense of humour and the family all have a Denny story or two to relate. Being a true Norwegian, his famous quote was: A thousand Swedes ran through the weeds, chased by one Norwegian. A former caregiver sums it up like this “I always said, we all need a Dennis in our lives.” I am happy to have had a Dennis in mine.
A Family Gathering with interment will take place at a later date. Memorials in memory of Dennis may be made to St. John’s Lutheran Church as gifts of remembrance. Condolences can be sent to the family at www.preecevillefuneralhome.com
Arrangements were entrusted to Preeceville Funeral Home.
