Obituary

Donna was born on October 30, 1946 to parents Merle and Doris (Johnson) Snodgrass at the Canora Hospital.  She lived on the family farm, about 6 miles west of the hamlet of Tadmore, SK. Donna attended school at the one room country school by the name of Norway School from grades 1-7.  While living on her parent’s farm, she was a member of the Sturgis 4-H Beef Club.  In Grade 8, being that she was the only one in her class at Norway School, they advised her to go to school in Sturgis.  For Grade 8, she stayed with her uncle and aunt, Dallas and Catherine Snodgrass who only lived about 1 ½ miles from Sturgis.  For that year, she walked to school on the railroad track which was a shortcut to Sturgis.  For the remainder of her high school she boarded in town, first at the home of Jessie Rongve and then at Lilly Johnson’s.  She worked at various jobs after high school. She worked at Woolworth’s Department Store in Yorkton and then at Affleck’s Hardware in Sturgis.

On November 4th, 1967, she was united in marriage to Eldon Olson.  First, they lived in the town of Sturgis and then moved to a farm 3 ½ miles southwest of Sturgis.  They spent 40 wonderful years on the farm and raised 3 sons, Brad, Trevor and Greg.  Throughout the years she always grew a large garden specializing in growing a large corn patch which some of the neighbors would remark about.

Over the years she sold various products like Avon, Michelle Lynne Jewelry, Wicker products, Home and Gift and Plant Oasis, which was a process which didn’t require soil to grow plants.  In 1993, she got involved with a group of ladies and started a craft store in Sturgis which operated for several years.

Donna was involved in several organizations such as the Kinette Club, the United Church, United Church Women, and the SK Housing Authority.

Donna enjoyed curling and also watching and hauling her sons around the country with hockey, ball and other sports activities.  She also enjoyed and was very good at growing flowers and doing flower arrangements.

In 2009, Donna and Eldon moved into the town of Sturgis for retirement.  They moved into and renovated the house that had belonged to Eldon’s parents.

Donna was predeceased by her parents, Merle and Doris Snodgrass, brother Ronald Dale in infancy, mother and father-in laws Andrew and Rosa Olson, Sister-in laws Donna Olson and Jacquie Olson, brother in-law David Olson and nephew Tim Olson.

Left to mourn her loss is her husband of 55 years, Eldon Olson, their sons Brad (Kim) and their children Ryan(Julya), Leah and Brett, son Trevor (Carla) and their children Rhianna (Ryan), Shanae (Keannu), and Savannah, and son Greg (Kristin) and their children Emma and Morgan.  She is survived by 3 sisters, Mona (Keith) McLean of Dauphin MB, Bonnie (Boyd) Godfrey of Saskatoon, Karen (Roland Kenny) Long of Saskatoon and sister-in-law Marilyn (Warren Evans) Rook of Cochrane,AB. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and their children.
