Mrs. Doris Stone beloved wife Melvin Stone of Sturgis, formerly of Preeceville passed away peacefully on Monday, January 30, 2017 at the Canora Hospital. She was eighty-nine years of age.
Doris Irene Stone was born on August 9, 1927 in Newfoundland. Doris lived most of her life in Montreal, Quebec after moving there in 1945. On the retirement of her husband Melvin, they moved to Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. Twelve years ago, Doris and Melvin moved to Preeceville to be closer to their only daughter, Diana.
Doris was a home maker, raising her four children was her full time job. Her love for her children made this a job she was well suited to. Once her children grew up, and Doris had some free time, she became interested in various crafts. She did knitting, crocheting or whatever craft was popular at the time. She would try her hand at it. Her real passion was painting. She discovered an artistic talent that she didn’t realize she possessed. Doris sold a few of her works. She got more pleasure out of giving her paintings away to friends and family members.
Doris was an avid doll collector. Over the years, she amassed a collection of beautiful handmade dolls which she proudly displayed in their living room. Doris was also a dedicated church goer and was involved in church activities.
Doris is survived by Melvin her husband of seventy-two years her four children, Richard (Linda) from Ottawa, Brian (Ruby) from Preeceville, Diana from Preeceville, Gary (Patti) from Dartmouth; as well as twelve grandchildren and several great grandchildren.
Doris was predeceased by her mother, Ethel, her father Samuel and her brothers Alister, Malcolm, Calvin and Leonard.
Funeral Services were held on Friday, January 3, 2017 from the chapel of Preeceville Funeral Home with Pastor Floyd Covill of of the New Life Tabernacle officiating. The organist, Debbie Treen led the congregation in the singing of the hymns Blessed Assurance, Amazing Grace and In the Sweet By and By. Melvin Stone served as the urnbearer. Interment followed in the Preeceville Community Cemetery. Memorials in memory of Doris may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association as gifts of remembrance.
Arrangements were entrusted to Preeceville Funeral Home.
