Edward Olszewski, beloved husband of Sharon Olszewski of the Okla district passed away at the Preeceville and District Long Term Care Home on March 24, 2018 at the age of 82.
Edward was born on the family farm in the Okla area on March 23, 1936. After attending public school in Okla and high school in Sturgis, Edward started working in road construction. In 1960 Edward married Sharon Swan. In 1963 they purchased a farm near Okla and started farming. While farming, Edward continued to work on road construction for a few years and then operated a grader for the R.M. of Hazel Dell. He worked as administrator for the village of Lintlaw from 1971 until 1976 and then started farming full time.
Edward was active in the community being on the local school board, president of the Okla hall board, Agricultural councillor for the R.M. and represented the R.M. on the Preeceville Lions Hostel board, as well as the Preeceville Hospital and Ambulance boards. He was also a crop reporter for 25 years.
Edward loved farming and continued to do so well into his 70s. He enjoyed working around the farm mowing lawn and visiting family and friends. His favorite activities were playing bingo and attending auction sales where he rarely came home empty handed.
He is fondly remembered by his wife Sharon Olszewski, his children, Gary (Annette), Sandra Calvert (Tom), Warren (Joyce) and Mark; grandchildren, Stephanie and Alexander Calvert, Chance and Kamry Olszewski; siblings, Stan (Eleanor), Helen (late Peter) Shewchuk, Carol (Gerry) Lenzen and Tom (Liz); his Aunt Mary Stein and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Edward was predeceased by his parents Alex and Rosie (Petryk) Olszewski.
Funeral Services were held on Wednesday, March 28, 2018 from the Chapel of Preeceville Funeral Home with Crystal Bailey, Certified Celebrant officiating. A family tribute was given by Sandra Calvert and Warren Olszewski. Honourary bearers were all those that loved and shared in Edward’s life. Interment followed in the Okla Community Cemetery.
Memorials in memory of Edward may be made to the Okla Community Cemetery Fund or to the Preeceville Long Term Care Auxiliary as gifts of remembrance.
