Elsie (Tumak) Bryk

April 9, 1934 ~ March 3, 2017 (age 82) 82 Years Old

     Mrs. Elsie Bryk beloved wife of Gerald Bryk of Preeceville passed away at her home in Preeceville on Friday, March 3, 2017.

    Elsie was born on the family farm in the Hampton District on April 9, 1934. She was the fourth of nine children born to William and Sadie Tumak. Her siblings, in order of birth are: Elmer Tumak, Grace Bodnaryk, Tony Tumak, John Tumak, Mary Cooper, Merv Tumak, Janet Brydens, and Harvey Tumak.

    Elsie attended the Stawchan School near Hampton. During this time, she helped with the many chores and tasks involved with running a mixed farming operation. She also helped with the care of her younger brothers and sisters. She went to work at Wishart’s Grocery store in Hampton, where she also took up residence, until she moved to Preeceville to train as a Nurse’s Aide in 1955.

    Elsie met Gerald in 1956. They were married on October 11, 1958. Their first home was a house trailer on a lot next to the bakery in Preeceville. Geraldine was born in 1964. They moved into their present home in December of 1965. Bill was born in 1970.

    Elsie continued working at the Preeceville Union Hospital until she retired in 1987. She remained active in the community, serving as a volunteer at the hospital, as well as being very active with the UCW and the famous “Perogy Babas”.

     Elsie passed away on Friday, March 3, 2017 at her home in Preeceville.

     Elsie was predeceased by her brother Harvey.  Elsie leaves to cherish her memory her loving husband, Gerald; her two children and their families, daughter, Geraldine (Roy) Palamar and their children Randy, Jesse and Nikita; her son, Bill (Jacky) Bryk and their children Kyle and Jessica; her brothers and sisters; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

    Elsie was a great lover of the outdoors: she loved tending to her garden, and picking berries and mushrooms. She also loved camping, spending time with her family and being out at the family farm. Elsie will be dearly missed by her family and many friends.

                A visitation for family and friends was held on Tuesday, March 7, 2017 from the chapel of Preeceville Funeral Home. Funeral Services were held on Wednesday, March 8, 2017 from Trinity United Church in Preeceville with Rev. Miles Russell officiating. Pianist, Karolyn Kosheluk with members of the Trinity United Church Choir led the congregation in the singing of the hymns, “Here I am Lord”, “Amazing Grace”, and “Jesus, You Have Come to the Lakeshore”. The choir anthem was “In the Bulb There Is a Flower”. Interment will follow at a later date. Casketbearers were Kyle Bryk, Jessica Bryk, Randy Palamar, Jesse Palamar, Nikita Palamar and Jason Romanchuk.

   Memorials in memory of Elsie may be made to Trinity United Church or to the Preeceville Hospital Auxiliary as gifts of remembrance.

     Arrangements were entrusted to Preeceville Funeral Home.
