In 1981 after their retirement Elsie and Lawrence left Ontario and returned to Saskatchewan.

Elsie was a devoted mother and loved her children dearly. She moved to Barrie, Ontario briefly to care for Dorothy her daughter when she was ill in 2002 and stayed till 2004 when she returned to Saskatchewan in 2006. Elsie was excited to be a nana to Cheryl and Rick, and spent endless hours playing with them when they were younger. She was a fun grandmother and enjoyed her grandchildren whether it was playing video games, watching her grandson play hockey or playing cards with her granddaughter. Elsie later became a great-grandmother to Tyler and Josh. Elsie enjoyed family and loved to have family gatherings and to cook for her family.

Elsie had many skills, talents, and interests. She especially loved to garden, and always had a garden full of vegetables and flowers. Elsie could be seen spending countless hours in her garden to make everything grow well and everything beautiful.  She also loved to bake, cook, knit, and paint. She seemed to excel at her skills and talents and enjoyed them. Elsie had several interests that she enjoyed doing in her life. Elsie enjoyed playing cards and bingo with family and friends and would spend many hours with these two activities. Elsie also enjoyed music and to dance, and would always look to dance when music was playing.  She also loved listening to live music especially country music. Elsie took a keen interest in her health and was very health conscious, and her health was very important to her. She enjoyed having many discussions about foods, vitamins, and health with her granddaughter’s husband Rob.  Elsie was very interested in sports, and she loved her sports! She was often seen watching her Toronto Blue Jays, curling, football, and hockey. Elsie was also a big movie fan, and loved watching movies of all kinds on television. However, her passion was to drive. Elsie loved to drive her car, and she would make several trips back and forth from Ontario to Saskatchewan to visit her relatives than from Saskatchewan to Ontario to visit her children and grandchildren.
