Fay Burghardt Obituary

     Fay Marilyn was born to Hughie and Theresa Foster on July 15,1940 in the hospital in Wadena, Sask. 

     Fay attended grades 1 to 8 at Heatherbank School. She completed grade 9 by correspondence. In the fall of 1955, she headed off to Regina where she attended Sacred Heart Academy for grades 10 to 12.

     After graduation in May of 1958, Fay worked at St. Joseph Hospital in Ile-a-la-Crosse as a nurse's aide. In the late spring 1959, Fay took ill and ended up returning back to her parent’s farm south of Lintlaw, Sask. In the fall of 1959 Fay became engaged to Johnnie Burghardt. They were married on Feb 25, 1960 at St.Theresa Parish in Lintlaw, Sask. The couple took over the farm located SE 16-34-9-W2. Together they raised 8 children. In Sept of 2022, after the passing of her husband John, Fay moved to Wadena, Sask. In Jan 2023, Fay moved to the Kelvindell Lodge in Kelvington, Sask where she lived until her passing.

     Fay’s garden was her happy place, and she took great pride in it. She was an avid quilt maker, and enjoyed making quilts for her children, grandchildren, family, and friends. Fay was a woman of deep faith, and was heavily involved within her church community and the CWL. She spent many hours sitting and praying at the grotto that her grandson Gregory/Br Raphael built. 

     On Thursday, October 5, 2023, Fay passed away peacefully with her family at her side.

     Fay was predeceased by her husband Johnnie, son Barry, her parents Hughie and Theresa Foster; her sisters Lorraine, Joyce, Ida, Betty & and brother Hughey.

     Fay had numerous children, grandchildren, and she cherished each and every one of them with great love. Fay is survived by her 7 children, Bonnie Hooper (Scott), Jordan Snowdy, Curtis Snowdy, Renne Hooper & Amber Stagg (Chris), Draper; Daniel Burghardt (Maureen), Adam & Mikayla; Johnnie Burghardt (Shelly), Kaitlyn, Ty & Desirae; Becky Brisby (Ray), Chelsey & Robert; Ronnie Burghardt (Lily), Amy Martens (Matthew), Claire, Amanda Mikkonen (Kevin), Evelyn, Dustin (Josie), Alicia, Ashley & Abigail; Holly Parsons (Scott), Gregory/Br Raphael, Laura & Mary; Rodney Burghardt. Her sister Gail Olyniuk; as well as numerous nieces and nephews, relatives and friends.

The Evening Prayer Service was held on Tuesday, October 10, 2023, from St. Theresa’s Roman Catholic Church, Lintlaw with Fr. Augustine Osei-Bonsu officiating. Funeral Mass was celebrated on Wednesday, October 11, from St. Theresa’s Roman Catholic Church with Fr. Gerard Cooper as Celebrant.  Hughie Foster served as the crossbearer and Mikayla Burghardt, Laura Parsons and Mary Parsons were lectors.  Pianist, Elsie Peters played for soloist, Lisa Anderson and for the hymns  “Be Not Afraid” and “Holy God We Praise Thy Name”. Interment followed at St. Theresa’s Parish Cemetery, Lintlaw, with Fay’s grandsons and son-in-laws, Jordon Snowdy, Robert Brisby, Gregory Parsons (Br Raphael), Adam Burghardt, Duston Burghardt, Ty Burghardt, Curtis Snowdy, Scott Parsons, Ray Brisby and Scott Hooper serving as casketbearers. Honorary Bearers were Lintlaw CWL and Fay’s daughter-in-laws. Memorials in memory of Fay may be made to St. Theresa’s Parish as gifts of remembrance.
