Fred Hackman Obituary

With great sadness, the family of Fred Hackman announce his passing on August 11, 2025, at the age of 87 years in his home town at the Preeceville Health Centre.  Fred’s recent years were marked by a courageous battle with serious medical issues, which he faced with unwavering strength and a smile. Despite his pain, Fred’s resilience and spirit remained unbroken; he was a hero to the end.

Fred was born on January 12, 1938, on the family farm in the Preeceville District to John and Nettie Hackman. He married Alice Moniuk on November 25, 1960. In 1966, they purchased an acreage situated at the edge of Preeceville—so close that, you could say they had, “one foot in town and one foot out.” Fred and Alice were blessed with two sons, Edwin and Robert.

Throughout his working life, Fred filled many roles: he worked for the Department of Highways, at Premier Feeds, and at the Turkey Farm. But his true passion was farming. In 1976, Fred and Alice purchased a farm just east of Preeceville, where they raised cattle and harvested grain. An avid outdoorsman, Fred cherished time spent fishing and hunting—especially autumn hunting trips with Alex, which often resulted in moose or deer for the family. Fred was a proud member of Preeceville Wildlife.

Fred was also known for his remarkable skills as a mechanic; many said, “there was nothing he could not fix.”  After selling the farm in 2016, Fred never left farming entirely behind—he continued to work the field on the acreage and plant wheat.

Fred was predeceased by his parents, John and Nettie; brother in-law, Fred Leason; brother, Bill (Verna) Hackman; sister, Pauline (Allen) Rogoza; as well as Stanley (Helen) Bachinski, Alex (Elsie) Bachinski, and Julia (Steve) Stefanowich.

He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of nearly 65 years, Alice; sons, Edwin (Evelyn) and Robert (Karen); grandchildren, Mason (Kat), Christopher, Raquel (Taylor), and Dillon; great-grandchildren, Abigail and Carter; sisters, Helen Leason and Irene (Stanley) Kawa; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.

Fred’s legacy of hard work, kindness, and quiet strength will be dearly missed by all who knew him

Funeral Services were held on August 15, 2025, from the Chapel of Preeceville Funeral Home with Phyllis Verbeek officiating. Interment followed at the Preeceville Community Cemetery with Christopher Johnson, Mason Hackman, Raquel Hackman, Harold Leason, Wayne Preston and Harvey Wolowski as casket bearers.

Memorials in memory of Fred may be made to the charity of one’s choice as gifts of remembrance.

Arrangements were entrusted to Preeceville Funeral Home.
