It is with great sadness that the family of Garry Surcon, beloved husband of Val Surcon, of Sturgis, announce his passing on Tuesday, October 7, 2025. He was 74 years of age.
A Celebration of Garry's Life was held on Friday, October 17th from the Sturgis Community Hall.

Born Nov. 27, 1950 in Canora Saskatchewan to Mike and Sadie (Gurski) Surcon. He attended school in Hyas for grades 1 - 8 and completed grades 9 thru 12 in Sturgis. On Aug. 24, 1974 he married Valerie Gazdewich in Stenen.
Garry was never far from the family farm where he actively farmed for his entire life. He began his off the farm work life at the Sask Wheat Pool in Preeceville & Kamsack, then working at Canora Auto Electric in 1973 which kicked off a long career in the Auto Parts industry. As a parts person and parts manager, he held positions at Canadian Tire in Yorkton, Standard Motors in Yorkton, Standard Motors/Fort Ignition in Sturgis/Preeceville, Fort Ignition/UAP Napa in Preeceville, and back to Canora Auto Electric then Maple Farm Equipment. He then retired and came out of retirement to go back to Canora Auto Electric. Garry truly enjoyed the auto parts world and could be found at Canora Auto Electric until the business closed in 2024.
Garry was an avid broomball and ball player, and he also enjoyed bowling and curling. Garry’s passions were his kids and their activities, taking great joy in their accomplishments.
Garry was a member of the Sturgis and District Volunteer Fire Department, Kinsmen Club of Sturgis, a minor hockey coach, T-ball founder, and Sturgis Sports and Rodeo Volunteer.
In more recent years he could be found at the local rinks or holding down a spot on the coffee circuit with his buddies, and pitching in wherever he felt was needed.
Garry was predeceased by his grandparents Leonti and Mary Surcon, Andrew and Mary Gurski, his parents Mike and Sadie Surcon, brother-in-law Steve Gazdewich and sister-in-law Darlene Gazdewich. Garry is survived by his wife Valerie, son Michael & his wife Kristel, their children Erica, Madison, Mayah; son Garnet & his partner Alison, children Dylan, Keagan, Liam, Keiran. Brother & sister-in-law, Ronald & Lorraine their children and grandchildren; his sister Adeline Surcon. Brothers-in-law and their wives Stan & Bev, Paul & Phyllis, Randy & Deb, their children and grandchildren. Uncle Mike Koniski and many cousins.
