Gladys Wagar

The family of the late Gladys Wagar sadly announce her passing on November 29, 2015

 

Gladys Audrey Clara Wagar (Patterson) was born on October 23, 1924, at Roland,

Manitoba.  She was  the third daughter of Carman and Laura Patterson.  She had five sisters and one brother – Dorothy, Thelma, Lorraine, Hazel, Elaine and Blake . 

 

Gladys received her education in the Roland School.  After graduation, she enlisted in the army at Camp Shilo near Brandon.  Gladys served  in the Canadian Women’s Army Corps as a Staff Sergeant and worked in the Quarter Master’s Store.

 

While in the army, Gladys met the love of her life, Herb Wagar of Sturgis. They were both discharged in April of 1946 and married on July 10, 1946 at the Patterson family home in Roland.

 

Gladys and Herb made their home in Sturgis .  They were blessed with 4 children, - Ronald, Marilyn, Maureen and Calvin.  In 1956, they purchased the GMC and Cockshutt dealerships and operated the business as Wagar Motors.  In 1963, they they started Wagar Farm Equipment in a new location. 

 

Gladys was the accountant and bookkeeper for both businesses along with many other duties which helped to grow the business for over 52 years. 

 

Gladys was active in her community as a member of the Legion Ladies Auxiliary , the Ladies Curling Club and the R.E.A.D. Club .  She served on the figure skating club executive, was a 4-H sewing leader, volunteered with the school band, Sports and Rodeo, and acted as taxi driver for her kids at  multiple sporting events and music lessons.

 

Gladys loved to knit and sew and was accomplished at both.  The smells of baking, filled her home but she still had time to enjoy curling, golfing and skating,. 

 

Gladys was actively involved in her Church and her faith and dedication to God was strong and never wavered.

 

Gladys passed away with family at her side at the Pasqua Hospital Regina on Sunday, November 29 at the age of 91.  She was predeceased by her parents, her husband Herb in May 2014, her sisters Dorothy, Lorraine, Hazel and Thelma and her grandson Mark.

 

Gladys is survived by her children, Ronald (Barb) Wagar, Sturgis, SK;  Marilyn (Dean) Harris ,Altona MB; Maureen (David) Booker, Empress, AB; and Calvin (Cheryl) Wagar, Regina, SK ; 13 Grandchildren and 26 Great Grandchildren , a sister Elaine and a brother Blake and many nieces and nephews.

 

Funeral Service was held on Monday, December 7, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. from the Chapel of Preeceville Funeral Home.  Internment followed in the Sturgis Community Cemetery, Sturgis, Sask. with Preeceville Funeral Home in care of arrangements.

 

 

Funeral Service for the late Gladys Wagar of Sturgis, beloved wife of the late  Herb  Wagar will be held on Monday at 1:00 p.m. from the Chapel of Preeceville Funeral Home.

Interment will follow in the Sturgis Community Cemetery.
