Grant H. See

Mr. Grant See, beloved husband of the late Blanche (Sjuberg) See, of Preeceville, passed away on Sunday, January 25, 2026. He was 94 years of age.

Grant Herbert See was born December 6, 1931, in Edmonton, Alberta, to James Ausker See and Charlotte Anne See (Hazelwood). His mother passed away when he was 16 and he then moved with his father and step-mother, Hazel Cook, to Vancouver. He started his work life at age 16, working in a service station and a car dealership. There he received some training in the parts department of Ross Baker Motors, but soon realized that he was interested in mechanics. From then on, he worked in carious garages in the area. He met a girl and was married at age 21. They had one son, Charles.

Grant’s father moved to Williams Lake, BC, and Grant and family soon followed. Although they followed his parents, his young wife did not stay and he was left as a single parent raising a young son.

Grant worked for the local Chev dealership in the parts department but was laid off and later found work at various businesses before working for Village Service. He would meet the love of his life, Blanche Sjuberg Jacques, and they were happily married for 60 years. Together they raised two daughters, and one son, Judith Jacques Zaharia, Karen Jacques Esakin and Charles See. They lived in Williams Lake for 42 years.

Grant spent the last 10 years there working for Canadian Tire and as an elected director for the Cariboo Regional Health District, representing Area E and as treasurer and Hospital Board Chair.

When he retired, they moved to Preeceville and he was asked to put forward his name for Mayor of the town. He was elected and served as Mayor of Preeceville for 6 years. Grant was also appointed to the Sunrise Health Authority Board. During the years he was on the town council, Grant advocated for the new Long Term Care Facility which was to include 10 acute care beds, but that did not come to be for the community. He also started the Parkland Regional Waste Authority was as chair and manager of that until his retirement at the young age of 90.

Until his passing, Grant enjoyed his hobbies of electronics and amateur radio. On any given day he could be found chatting with friends all over the world, or listening to far off stations.

Grant was predeceased by his wife, Blanch; and his parents, James and Charolotte. Grant is survived by three children, Judith Jacques Zaharia (John), Karen Jacques Esakin, and Charles see (Dora); grandchildren, Trevor See, Derek See, Candace Zaharia, Carrie (Zaharia) Derin, Jason Knutsvik, Cory Knutsvik, and Chad Knutsvik; 12 great-grandchildren, and numerous great-great-grandchildren.

A Graveside Service will be held at a later date.

Memorial donations in memory of Grant may be made to the Preeceville Personal Care Home  (Box 1150, Preeceville, SK S0A 3B0) as gifts of remembrance.
