Harry Karcha Obituary

The family of Harry Karcha, husband of Lillian, sadly announce his passing on Sunday, May 8, 2022, at the Preeceville Long Term Care Centre. He was 77 years of age.

Harry George Karcha was born July 28, 1944 in Preeceville, Saskatchewan. Harry was the third of four children born to his parents George and Lena Karcha.

Harry grew up on the family farm in the Lady Lake district, north of Preeceville, SK. He attended Sunny Brae School, near his farm home, receiving grades 1-8 which was as far as country schools usually went years ago. After his school years, Harry continued to farm with his family, but also began a life with many jobs, including working in bush camps, putting in water and sewer lines, driving Cats to clear farm land, skidding timber, and working on the pipelines. He worked away over the winter months and would return to Lady Lake and help his dad on the farm in the summer.

Lil and Harry knew each other since they were children.  Lil had moved to Regina, but moved back to Preeceville in 1971.  A romance began, and on October 28, 1974 Lil and Harry were married on the Karcha family farm with Kim, Cheryl, and James by their side. Rev. Ron Jevons of the United Church officiated.   They were blessed with two other children Robert and Blair to complete their family.

Life on the farm was a busy place. It was a mixed farm, with cattle and grain. Over the years Harry had cattle, sheep, dogs, geese, a llama, donkeys, a buffalo and a goat. Family remember that Harry enjoyed harvest especially.

Throughout his life Harry has volunteered on the Lady Lake Park Board, was a member of the UGG, and the Saskatchewan Wildlife Federation, and put in many hours helping with the Lady Lake Hall. Harry and Lil helped look after the Etomamie Valley Cemetery at Hinchliffe as well as looking after the St. Demetrius Orthodox Cemetery at Lady Lake.

Harry loved camping and fishing, and being in nature. He enjoyed mushroom and berry picking, He was a good gardener and took pride in helping Lil beautify and landscape the yard.

Harry always had a project he worked on.  Recently he took on the big job of constructing a family cabin at Lady Lake.

Harry was having some health issues and entered hospital in Saskatoon in early February. He was diagnosed with cancer. Harry was in hospital in Saskatoon, then Wadena and eventually came to the Preeceville Health Centre on March 24, 2022.

Harry is predeceased (in his immediate family) by: his parents George and Lena Karcha, and his brother Rodney.

He is survived by his loving wife Lil, their 5 children; Kim (Mark), Cheryl (Russell), James (Lee Ann), Robert (Marsha), and Blair; grandchildren, Dean (Trish), Carla (Mike), Ryan (Christina), Chris (Ashten), Katherine (Tyrel), Jessie (Rachel), Kyla (Craig), Matthew, Autumn, Sierra (Hunter), Shaylyn, Tiernan, Braiden, Zachary, Halen, Elissa, Rebecca; and great-grandchildren, Carsyn, Tucker, Hunter, Scarlet, Emma, Claire, Gavin, Hannah, Aryan and Jayden.  As well as Harry’s sisters, Irene, and Kathy (Al), and many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
