Hilary Demucha Obituary

Stanley Demucha came from Glemboki, Poland in the year 1926. He was out working at six years as the demand for hired help was great in those days. He worked two years on the completion of the The Pas to Hudson Bay Railway and also worked in pulp and lumber mills as well as the farm.

In 1932 he married Mary Knapik and took over the homestead of the former homesteader, Dick Armstrong, which was located one mile south of Gold Bank School. He then immediately began clearing the land. Mary Demucha was a sister of the Pastor Father Knapik, who started a parish in the community. A small church was constructed.

Stanley and Mary Demucha raised two children; one boy named Hilary and one daughter, Bridget. Both children received their education in the Gold Bank School. Bridget also attended the Sturgis Composite School. In 1953 she went to Winnipeg, Manitoba, and became a typist and stenographer and worked for various different firms in the city. In 1969 she married John Terepa. They have two children; a boy called Micheal and a daughter names Maryka. John is a mechanic in the C.P.R. shop. They are currently living in Winnipeg.

I, Hilary, quit school in 1949 as I had to help on the farm. I took over the farm in 1955. My parents continued to live on the farm. In 1974, my Mother became an invalid and was a patient in a Care Home until her death in March 1982. She passed away at eighty-eight years of age. My father continued to live on the farm until his death in June, 1981. He lived to be ninety-two years old.

I still farm on my parent’s former homestead. I married Roselda Le Blanc in 1984. Roselda was originally from Domremy, Saskatchewan. Prior to her marriage to me, she had been living in St. Louis, Saskatchewan. My wife and I live on the farm in the Gold Bank community.
