Isabel Schur Obituary

SCHUR, Mary “Isabel” passed away on July 16, 2021. She was born on October 3, 1933 to David and Dorothy Emery in Debert, Nova Scotia. Isabel was the oldest of 4 girls, Isabel, Patricia, June and Janis. Isabel’s young life was spent in Debert area with family and many friends.    It was a country life filled with fun and happy days. In 1941 became a sad year as her sister Patricia dies with meningitis at the age of 5.

When she was in her early twenties, she moved to Halifax to find work. This is where she met Albert Everingham. In this union a son David and twin daughters Judy and Jo Ann were born. They separated in 1958. She moved back to Debert area to be with family and friends. Isabel raised her 3 children with the help of her parents. It was at this time in her life she accepted Jesus as her Saviour and was baptized.

One of Isabel’s friends suggested to her that she needed to find a companion. Her friend brought her the Free Press newspaper and they searched the pen pal section. They found a potato farmer in PEI and a grain buyer in Saskatchewan.  She chose the grain buyer. This is when her relationship with Walter Schur began. They would write to each other for the next 9 years. In 1971 she decided to go to Saskatchewan and meet Walter and his family of 4 in person. They decided to marry. Isabel packed up her family of 3, got on the train and became a resident of Endeavour Sask. They were married on October 16, 1971. Her family became a family of 7.

Isabel quickly joined the community of Endeavour, joining many groups, church community and senior clubs and curling.

In 1989 Walter passed away. She continued to live in Endeavour. With her love of reading she started a Story Hour and did that for a number of years. This was a highlight in her life.

In 1995 Isabel moved to Preeceville and remained till her death.

Isabel was a very outgoing person. She loved her walks, visiting and chatting with whoever she came in contact with. Isabel was dedicated to writing letters and sending cards that would never arrive late for the date.  Her photo albums were so organized that when a certain birthday, anniversary, or remembrance of a loved one came, the album would be brought out, opened so she could see and the person and remember them.

She had many trips back to Nova Scotia which was her true home.

She will be remembered and missed by all who knew her.

Isabel is predeceased by her sister Patricia (1941), father David (1973), mother Dorothy (1974), husband Walter (1989), son David (2015), grandson Aaron (2016).

Isabel leaves to cherish her memory her children Judy (Gary), Jo Ann (Keith), Dale, Glenn (Regina), Bonnie. Grandchildren Adriel (Krista), Nathaniel (Cindy), Tyrell (Sidney), Alison (Jay), Kirk, Rebecca (Adam), Sarah and Alicia. Great Grandchildren Gus, Arlo, Colbie and Brooks.
