Jack Reginald Jaques was born July 6,1937, the second son to David and Mabel Jaques. He passed away peacefully October 21, 2024, with family by his side at the Regina General Hospital after a short illness.
Jack attended Veterans School and completed his grade 10 by correspondence. On occasion, they would take a horse to make the journey. Jack was always interested in sports, especially ball, and some of his fondest memories were competing in field days at Endeavour or playing ball at Midland School.
When he had finished his schooling, he worked in Northern Manitoba on road construction for three years before returning home in 1960 to farm. He took over the family homestead in 1960 and lived on the farm until he got sick in September.
On October 9, 1965 he married Jeannette Korney, daughter of Roy and Anne Korney at St. James Anglican Church in Endeavour. Together they worked on the farm raising cattle, chickens, growing grain and tending to a large garden. In the early years, work on the farm was hard, having to do so much manual work by hand, picking rocks and roots, making and stacking square bales.
Jack was a skilled carpenter. He built many of the buildings on the farm. To help supplement farm income he built cabinets and other furniture. One of his favorite things was building furniture such as round oak tables, chairs, etc. In later years, he spent many days, through the winter, making live-edge furniture.
Jack’s love for fastball started at an early age continuing his whole life. He played fastball in Endeavour for many years, and coached and played with the Endeavour Seniors in later years. The other sport was curling, he curled right up to his late 70’s. Even after he quit curling, he would still spend time at the rink helping out.
Jack loved to sing and play his guitar. In the mid 80’s Jack, and his friends formed The Woodland Chorus Group. He loved to sing, and the time spent with the guys was something he truly cherished. This is something Jack enjoyed right up until he entered the hospital.
Jack was also involved in his community with the local Rec Board, a life long member of St. James Anglican Church and a founding member of the Endeavour Lions Club.
Jack lived a long life on the farm he loved and in the community he cherished. He will be deeply missed by all.
