It is with great sadness, that the family of Jeannette Luciw, beloved wife of the late Steve Luciw of Hazel Dell, announce her passing on Wednesday, February 18, 2026. She was 81 years of age, she will be deeply missed by all who loved her.
A Celebration of Life for Jeannette will be held on Friday, May 22, 2026 at 12:00 noon at the Hazel Dell Rec Centre.
Jeannette Luciw was born on October 14, 1944, to Mike and Mary Worobetz. She grew up on the family farm, attending Orange Vale School through Grade 8 before attending Sturgis Composite High School. After high school Jeannette began working in the restaurant industry, spending more than three years there. Her last position was at the Golden West Hotel, where she gained valuable skills that would serve her well throughout her career.
On July 11, 1970, Jeannette married Steve Luciw, the love of her life. They began their life together in Hazel Dell and on June 4, 1974, proudly purchased their family farm located 1.5 miles south of Hazel Dell. Jeannette was a devoted wife and mother who raised their three children Sheldon, Marty, and Dodi. While managing the household, she took on many additional responsibilities to help support the family.
Living on the farm came with many chores and responsibilities, where Jeannette took great pride in her large garden, especially her raspberry patches, which she enjoyed picking and sometimes selling. She loved canning and baking, and her pickles were second to none. In the early years, the kids fondly remember coming home from school to the treat of fresh doughnuts. Yard work was another source of pride for Jeannette; from gardening, planting flowers, tree trimming or mowing the lawn, she did it all exceptionally well and taught her children to do the same.
Jeannette loved her coffee and cherished visiting with friends or family while a fresh pot brewed. In her spare time, she enjoyed puzzles, crocheting, and sewing. She often sewed matching outfits for her children, whether for Christmas or school picture day. This passion led her to start her own small business called Jeannette’s Country Fabrics.
Never one to sit still, Jeannette was very active over the years. She sold cream, milk, and cheese, as well as Tupperware and Avon. She worked at the Hazel Dell Hotel, Century House, Cook’s Mink Farm, and later at Preeceville Florist & Greenhouse. It was there that her love for plants and flowers flourished, and in 1992 she opened Jeannette’s Greenhouse. Her favorite flowers were pink petunia waves; she was often complimented on the beauty of her work. What she enjoyed most was visiting with the customers and always found time for a quick chat over a cup of coffee.
Jeannette treasured time spent with her family, but especially enjoyed having sleepovers with her granddaughters. She enjoyed traveling, whether on casino bus trips with friends and family or attending weddings and other celebrations. She often spoke fondly of her first plane ride to Las Vegas for a casino weekend.
In 2002, Jeannette suffered a brain aneurysm and was no longer able to live on the family farm full‑time. She became a resident of the Preeceville Long Term Care facility, which was her home for the past 22 years until she passed on February 18, 2026, with her children by her side.
Jeannette was predeceased by her beloved husband, Steve, in 2010. She is lovingly remembered by her sons Sheldon and Marty (Mandy), and her daughter Dodi (Jim) & 4 granddaughters Aleah, Brooke, Cassidy, and Brianne. Jeannette is also survived by her sister Ann, brother Russell (Sonia); and in‑laws Joe (Elsie), Hope, Carolle, and Violet.
Those wishing to express sympathy may do so through donations to the family (c/o Box 648, Preeceville, SK, S0A 3B0) where all proceeds will be directed toward enhancing patient and family comfort at the Preeceville Long Term Care Facility.
