BURGHHARDT, Johnnie passed away peacefully on Friday, March 11, 2022, surrounded by family, at his home where he lived for over seventy-five years. He was ninety-two years of age. Johnnie Burghardt was born to Antoni and Katrina Burghardt on October 21, 1929 on his parent’s farm approximately 8 miles south of Lintlaw, Sask. His siblings were Mike, Rose, Mary, Stanley and Kenny.
He attended grades 1 to 8 at Heatherbank School. After he finished grade 8, he continued to work on the family farm. In March of 1946, they sold the farm and he moved to Ontario with his parents and brothers Stan and Kenny. There they worked on a tobacco farm. In October of that year the whole family returned back to Saskatchewan, where they purchased a farm 10 miles south of Lintlaw, which became the Burghardt farm.
On February 25, 1960 he married Fay Foster at St. Theresa’s Catholic Church in Lintlaw, Sask. The couple took over the farm from his parents where they raised 8 children together.
Johnnie was an active member of his Church and community.
John is survived by his loving wife, Fay of 62 years; his 7 children Bonnie Hooper (Scott), Jordon Snowdy, Curtis Snowdy, Renne Hooper & Amber Stagg (Chris); Daniel Burghardt (Maureen), Adam & Mikayla; Johnnie Burghardt (Shelley), Kaitlyn, Ty & Desirae; Becky Brisby (Ray), Chelsey & Robert; Ronnie Burghardt (Lily), Amy Martens (Matthew), Claire Martens, Amanda Mikkonen (Kevin), Evelyn Mikkonen, Duston, Alicia, Ashley & Abigail; Holly Parsons (Scott), Gregory (Brother Raphael), Laura & Mary; Rodney Burghardt; his brother Kenny Burghardt; as well as numerous nieces, nephews relatives and friends.
John was predeceased by his son Barry; his parents Antoni and Katrina Burghardt; his siblings Mike, Rose, Mary and Stanley.
The Prayer Service was held on March 20, 2022 at St. Theresa’s Roman Catholic Church in Lintlaw, Saskatchewan. The Funeral Mass was celebrated on March 21, 2022 also at St. Theresa’s Roman Catholic Church with Fr. Jerome Ogunleye presiding. Bridget Copeland and Shannon Miele attended the guest register. The crossbearer was Alicia Burghardt and the lectors were Mikayla Burghardt, Laura Parsons and Mary Parsons. Elsie Peters was the organist and led the hymns: Prayer of St. Francis, Hail Queen of Heaven, Immaculate Mary and Holy God We Praise Thy Name. The interment followed in St. Theresa’s Parish Cemetery with Jordon Snowdy, Robert Brisby, Gregory Parsons, (Brother Raphael), Adam Burghardt, Duston Burghardt, Curtis Snowdy and Ty Burghardt serving as pallbearers. The Honorary Bearers were Robert Willson, Lorne Willson, Darrel Cunningham, Rodney Cunningham, Joe Hartl, Carl Peters, Peter Johnston, Francis Lueke, Jim Yakimoski, Colin Redman, Clifford Guy and Will Walters. Memorials in memory of Johnnie may be made to St. Theresa’s Parish Cemetery Fund as gifts of remembrance. Messages of condolence may be shared at preecevillefuneralhome.com
