Larry Pankevich Obituary

Larry Thomas (Alex) Pankevich was born on March 20, 1951 at the Preeceville Union Hospital., finally a son for Harry & Annie after 7 daughters.  He attended public and high school in Preeceville and completed his grade 12 at Sturgis Composite High School in 1970.

After graduation he moved to Edmonton where he worked for Alberta Government Telephones.  In 1973 he attended Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT) majoring in Administrative Management.  Larry then went to work for Supply and Services Canada and the City of St. Albert, Alberta.  In 1980 the opportunity for Larry to move back to Saskatchewan came.  Larry took a job with the City of Saskatoon as a Purchasing Coordinator.  During this time Larry attended the University of Saskatchewan and SIAST Kelsey Institute where he upgraded some classes and worked towards obtaining his Certified Professional Purchaser (CPP) designation.  He remained with the city for 13 years and then moved on to work for Cogema Resources in the Uranium Mining Industry at McClean Lake, SK.  In 2002 Larry started as a Materials Management Coordinator with the Saskatchewan Institute of Applied Science and Technology (SIAST) in Prince Albert and retired in 2011.

Larry married, the love of his life, Brenda Mae Ritchie on October 2, 1976.  They welcomed their daughter Carla Rae on July 28, 1977 and son Scott Alexander on December 14, 1986.

Larry & Brenda bought their retirement home at Crystal Lake in 2007,. In 2008 Larry had Open Heart Surgery. A few years later they retired to their Happy Place at Crystal Lake and in 2013 he received a kidney transplant. 

Although Larry had many health issues, he cherished family get togethers, singing with his sisters, Saskatchewan Roughriders football games, Happy Hour with his lake family and visits with his buddies at the Golden West Bar in Preeceville.

Larry is predeceased by his parents, Harry & Annie Pankewich, in-laws Al & Mary Ritchie, Sisters Julie Gulka & Alice Dmytriw, brothers-in-law Audin Hesiuk, Walter Statchuk, & Mike Dmytriw and sisters-in-law Shirley Ritchie, Joy Ritchie and Patricia Peel, nephews Corey Statchuk, Danny Gulka, Rob Brezinski, Andy Gulka, Ron Kowalyk & Nolan Thompson, niece Brenda Porter and great nephew Adam Vanthuyne.

Leaving to cherish his memory; his wife Brenda of 45 years; daughter Carla and her husband Shane Budnick and granddaughter Hayley; son Scott; his sisters Stella Tulik, Marge Statchuk, June Hesiuk, Jane(Phil) Brezenski, Lenore(Gord) Lesanko; sisters-in-law Sharon(Merv) Secundiak, Carol(Ken) Pugh; brothers-in-law David Ritchie, Blake(Sherri) Ritchie, Bob(Kathy) Ritchie, numerous nephews and nieces, friends and lake family.

In memory of Larry the family encourages everyone to consider being an organ donor. Memorial donations may be made to the Kidney Foundation as gifts of remembrance.
