Welcome to the memorial page for

Lorne Elmer Rothstein

April 14, 1936 ~ June 4, 2017 (age 81) 81 Years Old

Mr. Lorne Rothstein of Kelvington, formerly of the Lintlaw district passed away peacefully on June 4, with his family at his side.

Lorne was born on April 14, 1936 at the family farm southeast of Lintlaw. He was the first of five children born to Tony and Mabel Rothstein. He attended St. Eutrope School from grades one to eight. After school, he helped on the family farm as well as helping other farmers. It was here he learned to love the outdoors. He became an avid hunter and trapper. Other than a few winters in northern Manitoba, Lorne never ventured far from home, farming, operating his own garage, driving a cat, or working for local farmers. Later in life, he kept a regular seat at the local coffee shop, tended to his garden and was always available to tease any of the nieces or nephews who wandered by.

Lorne never married or had children of his own, but was the uncle you treasured as a child. He was always willing to take you fishing, trapping or out for a Sunday drive to spot some type of wild life no one else could find. He always had a pocket full of change which he would pull out and have the nieces or nephews pick out coins of their choice.

Some of Lorne’s favorite activities included hunting and fishing, both in the summer and ice fishing in the winter. He spent many weekends in summer at sports days watching ball or entering horseshoe pitching tournaments. Most of all, Lorne was a story teller, spinning tales of how he shot a moose which was charging at him in the bush, so thick you could only see its eyes, or a fish too long to get in the boat, or too big to get up the hole in the ice. If something had a trigger, tracks or four legs, he had a story to tell you about it.  Lorne was an active member of the Timberline Wildlife Federation for many years.

Lorne entered the Kelvindell Lodge on April 17, 2017.  He was predeceased by his parents, Anton in 1972, Mabel in 2004 and his niece Donna in 2015. Left to mourn his passing are his sisters Grace (Andy), Carol (John), Dorothy (Donald), and his brother Jim, as well as nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews.

A Graveside Service was held on Saturday, July 8, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. from the St. Theresa Roman Catholic Parish Cemetery in Lintlaw.
