Margareta Fehr Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Margareta Fehr, of Hyas, annouce her passing on Saturday, October 11, 2025.

Margareta Wiebe Fehr was born to Peter and Maria Wiebe on February 7, 1960, in Cuauhtémoc, Mexico. After a nine-month battle with bone cancer, she peacefully slipped away on the evening of October 11, 2025, at the age of 65.

Mom was born into a very loving family, the second of eleven children. Even as a young child she was very responsible and took her role as one of the oldest in the family seriously. One of her younger sisters was born with cerebral palsy and the family was extremely devoted in taking care of her. This no doubt helped shape Mom into the compassionate and caring person that she was for the rest of her life. When Mom was 18, she felt the call of the Lord and surrendered her life fully to him. God worked many miracles through this decision and blessed her richly.

On February 10, 1980, she was married to Francisco Fehr. We three children, Heidy, Hildy, and Hanley, were born into their home. Although these years were filled with many challenges, Mom’s deep faith carried her through. Mom always loved to serve others, and this led them to start a pizza restaurant called Pizzeria Los Arcos. Mom loved running the restaurant and spent many happy days serving customers with her whole heart. In 1993, Mom and Dad decided to move to Canada. Several days before they planned to move, Dad had a devastating accident that left him paralyzed. With the help of family the move to Canada was still made, but on an air ambulance. After many months in the hospital in Saskatoon, Mom and Dad settled in Hyas, Saskatchewan. Here they joined the Church of God in Christ Mennonite where they received tremendous help and support through the many new challenges they faced. Less than ten years later, Mom was diagnosed with cancer. This took her through a difficult time of chemotherapy. During this time she asked God for fifteen more years of life. We are grateful to Him that He answered that prayer by giving us twenty-four more years with her.

In 2004, her restaurant dream came true again and she opened a small Mexican restaurant called “Little Mexico” in Hyas. This was truly her passion, and she thoroughly enjoyed it. Sadly, due to health problems, she had to close the restaurant doors, but her love of cooking always remained. As a way to continue serving others, she took on many side jobs selling products to others. Her most recent venture was running a small fabric store from her house. She loved this and thoroughly enjoyed having customers and friends stopping in at all hours.

Last December Mom was able to spend a wonderful time in Mexico with her mom and family. Shortly after coming home, she found out she had cancer in her bones. She accepted this news with courage. Mom’s faith in God shone brighter than ever as her body succumbed to the cancer. Her joy and hope of heaven was an inspiration and encouragement. The last four months of her life were spent at the Norquay Health Centre, where she received exceptional care!

Mom had a way of bringing people together and she made each person she knew feel special. Her cheerful presence lit up every room that she entered. Her faith and trust in God carried her through the many changes in her life which included leaving home and family to move to a different country, where everything (language, food, culture, people, climate) was new.  Mom never quit being positive, but she was also real and admitted it when life was too hard and she needed help. God took Mom on paths that even she did not understand, but she was obedient to the Lord’s voice and followed where He led. She dearly loved her grandchildren and was their biggest cheerleader.

Mom will be greatly missed by her family and friends. She was welcomed into heaven by her dad, two sisters, and a grandson.

Funeral Services were held on Thursday, October 16th, at the Norquay Communiplex.
