It is with great sadness that the family of Mrs. Marjorie Loretta Rosenkerr, of Sturgis, announce her passing on Saturday, August 10, 2024. She was 84 years of age.
Marjorie Loretta (Carlson) Rosenkerr was born October 11, 1939, to George and Loretta Rosenkerr on the family farm in the Robinson Creek District. She was the middle child and the youngest daughter of nine children.
Marjorie attended Robinson Creek School. This is where she became known as Loretta because there were two “Marjoies" in her classroom. She preferred working outside doing chores with her siblings over going to school. At her earliest opportunity, Loretta went out to work as a mother’s helper.
Her sister and partner, Louise and Ken Simes introduced Loretta to Elmer Carlson at a Sturgis Sports Day. On November 21, 1959, Loretta and Elmer were married in Canora, Sask. Loretta and Elmer traveled to construction sites, living in a trailer for the first couple of years of their marriage before making their home in Sturgis. They had four children: Debora Ann, Donald Lyle, Timothy Elmer and Allen Robert. Loretta was very involved in the lives of her children. She always had time for them, whether it was playing cards or games, making costumes, sewing doll clothes or taking them on little adventures. She encouraged and supported them throughout their school years, adult lives and in everything they did.
Loretta grew a large garden and preserved all the berries that were picked by the family. She loved creating flower beds and you would often find her looking at her seed catalogues, and making plans for the following spring. She also enjoyed travelling and camping with her family, playing cards, curling, bowling, attending rodeos. Loretta was always taking photos to remind her of all the people and moments in her life.
Loretta was a kind, considerate, compassionate lady with a great sense of humour. She always had time for a cup of coffee with anyone who stopped by. She drank many cups of coffee while visiting with Rose Okrainetz and Norma Goulden. She also had a love for animals, especially birds.
Loretta lived in her own home in Sturgis until she moved into Wynyard Golden Acres care home in April of 2022 in Wynyard, Sask. Her sister, Agnes joined her there in October, 2023 from Delta B.C., where they enjoyed living together until Agnes passed away on July 2, 2024.
