Marlene Reitlo Obituary

Marlene was born the youngest of 4 children to Cubby and Irene Danard on the family farm near Minitonas, Manitoba. She attended a one-room country school with her siblings. She was a good student and finished high school in town, where she went on to begin her career as a teller with the bank. She was transferred to the branch in Preeceville, Saskatchewan where she met and, after a whirlwind romance, married Lawrence Reitlo in 1957. They had a son, Dale, later that year and a daughter, Donna in 1959.

Lawrence and Marlene owned and operated a thriving grocery store in Preeceville. They ventured into grain farming for a time as well. In 1980 they retired to Kelowna which they enjoyed tremendously, particularly the weather.

Marlene and Lawrence enjoyed a long and happy marriage. Marlene rose to every challenge, supporting her husband in all his many endeavors and stepping up to care for him and take over managing their affairs single-handedly when he suffered serious health setbacks. She was a very strong, practical, intelligent and loyal woman. Lawrence loved, admired and cherished her until his death in 1999. After his passing, Marlene relocated once more to Victoria to be near family.

Marlene was known for her quiet wit and sense of fun. She enjoyed many pastimes and interests including arts and crafts, gardening, curling and the Blue Jays.

Marlene was pre-deceased by her parents, husband Lawrence, sister Jean and brother Beatty. She leaves to mourn her brother Irving; children Dale and Donna (Alan); grandchildren Sara (Rechelle), Andrew and Nicholas (Kylee); many nieces and nephews; and friends from Preeceville, Kelowna and Victoria.

Marlene was an intelligent and interesting person who lived a long, full and caring life. First and foremost however, she saw herself as a child of God. Faith, devotion, study and prayer were a constant throughout her life. Now her God has called her home, may she rest in eternal peace.

There was a service held at Church of the Advent (510 Mt View Ave, Victoria, BC V9B 2B1) on Saturday, March 8th, 2025.

A Graveside Service was held on Tuesday, July 15, from the Preeceville Lutheran Cemetery, where Marlene will be laid to rest with Lawrence.
