John’s hobbies included hunting, fishing, and reading. He worked with the Boone and Crockett Club, Henry Kelsey, and Pope & Young doing big game measuring.

In May of 2022, John’s health began to fail and he entered the Canora Hospital. In June he moved into Long Term Care in Kamsack and was later transferred to the Norquay Health Centre on August 08, 2022, where he resided till his passing on Saturday, August 02, 2025.
