Mrs. Audrey Krotenko Obituary

Mrs. Audrey Krotenko, beloved wife of the late Harry Krotenko, of Stenen, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 13, 2025. She was 88 years of age.

Audrey was born October 28, 1936 in Melville SK to Ancel and Adah (Burroughs) Hannah. Audrey was the oldest of two children and grew up with her sister Gail (Hannah) Bjornson. She started school in the rural Usherville, later attending Endeavour, Reserve, and Sturgis Schools prior to completing high school in Preeceville. During high school she worked as the popcorn girl at the Preeceville Theatre. After graduation she worked for SaskTel in Canora as a cord board operator until being offered a job in the Toronto Dominion Bank in Preeceville.  She worked there until her marriage and transferred to the Stenen branch.

Audrey married Gabriel (Harry) Krotenko on June 14, 1958, and lived on the acreage near Stenen.  In 1978 Audrey and Harry were joined with their son Shawn. Their house was always open and they loved company. Coffee and baking where always on hand. Audrey loved to bake, and it seemed like there was always something in the oven when Shawn came home from school. She loved her garden and would be busy tending to her flowers in summer or canning and freezing produce in the fall. She was not a very sports minded person, but liked to watch Harry in his many sports, hockey, ball, and curling.

Audrey worked full time for Toronto Dominion Bank in Stenen for many years and later worked part time. She didn’t like meetings so hated to take executive positions but did it when necessary.  Audrey was always available to help with church, community, or neighbourhood activities. Audrey remained on the acreage until 2010 after Harry’s strokes when she moved to her home in Preeceville. She spent most of her afternoons visiting Harry in long term care, and worked very hard to make sure Harry had the proper support and care he required.

Audrey suffered from Arthritis which made walking or bending rather difficult. In January of 2013, she had major heart surgery, an aortic valve replacement, and in 2017, was diagnosed with Non Hodgkins Lymphoma. Audrey was very positive through all of her health challenges. In the fall of 2017, Audrey moved to the Preeceville Health Centre, Long Term Care and has been a resident there until her passing.

Audrey will be deeply missed by her son, Shawn; sister, Gail (Orval) and many neices, nephews, and friends.

A Graveside Service was held on Friday, September 19, 2025, at the Stenen Community Cemetery with Lynn Larsen officiating. Jordan Christianson, Craig Lisoway, Owen Westerlund, Jamie Christianson, Riley Wiens and Chris Balyski served as casket bearers.

Memorials in memory of Audrey may be made to the Stenen Community Cemetery (c/o the Village of Stenen, Box 160, Stenen, SK, S0A 3X0), Preeceville Long Term Care Auxilliary (Box 937, Preeceville, SK, S0A 3B0), or to the Jim Pattison Children's Hospital (1-345 Third Ave. South, Saskatoon, SK, S7K 1M6) as gifts of remembrance.
