Mrs. Katherine Kuzik Obituary

Mrs. Katherine Kuzik, beloved wife of the late Pete Kuzik, of Sturgis, passed away on Thursday, March 13, 2025. She was 101 years of age.

Katherine was born on January 14, 1924, along with her twin sister, Madeline, in the Glen Elder area near Danbury, Saskatchewan. She was one of 11 girls and 2 boys born to Sam and Annie Keveryga. Katherine attended the South Porcupine School which was across the road from the family farm. After completing grade school she went out to work in the Sturgis area.

In 1941 Katherine married Pete Kuzik and they started farming 4 miles North of Sturgis.  Katherine and Pete raised two sons, Dennis and Darryl.

Katherine was very active in the community throughout her life.  She belonged to the Homemakers and Horticultural Clubs, just to name a few. She was also part of the original committee in the creation of the READ Club in Sturgis and helped celebrate its 50th Anniversary recently. She was also a long time member of the Sturgis United Church and sang in the choir.

Kathrine was a very active gardener and took many prizes with her flowers which were grown in her garden. She spent countless hours crocheting amazing pieces of work which are enjoyed by many family members. She also loved to knit in her spare time. One of her greatest enjoyments was making quilts, which are cherished to this day by all the family members.

Another great pastime was playing cards (Canasta) with the many ladies in town until the wee hours of the night.  Katherine loved to pattern dance with her long time friend Annie Lesanko. They won many awards at competitions throughout the region.

Katherine is predeceased by her parents, Sam and Annie Keveryga, her husband (Pete) in 1977, her son (Dennis) in 2024, and Granddaughter (Shannon Ells) in 2023.

She is also predeceased by her sisters, Helen (Lenych), Mary (Reznik), Lily (Rapchuk), Pauline (Acre), Nettie (Marak), Leona (Nestor), Josephine  (Melnik), Madeline (Prysunka), Olga (Wetaski),

Pearl (Golda), and brother John (Keveryga).

Her other surviving family members are: Darryl (Hilda) Kuzik, their daughters Katy (Kevin) Phillips and Tracy Kuzik, Luan Kuzik and Peter (Lisa) Kuzik, great grandchildren Jennifer, Samuel, and Kaitlyn Kuzik, and many other nieces and nephews. Katherine has one surviving brother, Bill (Florence) Keveryga.

She will be forever loved and missed by many.
