Mrs. Lorretta Lorean (Brinkworth) Madarash

    Lorretta, our mom, our sister, our sister-in-law, auntie, cousin and friend, died peacefully with family by her side on June 6, 2024. She was a strong, independent, hard-working, and caring person who was loved and will be missed.

    Lorretta was the only daughter and youngest child born to Joseph and Gladys (Long) Brinkworth. She was the baby sister to brothers Joe, Harold and Roy. She grew up on the family farm which was located 12 miles from Roche Percée and attended Britannia School.

    Lorretta’s first job was at a hotel in North Portal where she met and developed a close relationship with Annie Smith and her daughter, Jean. After high school, Lorretta worked at Woolworth’s and the Leader Post in Regina and was reported not to have missed a day of work. During this time, she accompanied Jean to visit Jean’s family in Lintlaw. Attending a dance in Hazel Dell, Lorretta met Paul Madarash. A courtship followed with several trips between Lintlaw and Regina.

    Lorretta and Paul were married in Bienfait on October 28, 1967. One week later, they celebrated again at the Lintlaw Town Hall with a reception and dance. Lorretta will go down in history as one of the most beautiful brides. She and Paul built their lives on the Madarash family farm.

    Lorretta and Paul welcomed sons Anthony (Tony) in 1970 and one year, one month and one day later, Russell was born. They moved a house from Lintlaw to the farm where they began their family life together. The family worked together picking roots and stones, tending to livestock, feeding animals, milking cows, midwifery to piglets, and calves being born. As a farmer, Lorretta operated machinery for field work and, in later years, clearing snow in the yard. Lorretta also planted, tended to, and harvested large gardens. Several people shared that they bought the best cream from Lorretta.

    Sadly, in 1992 Paul died, leaving her with young sons and a determined commitment to working hard on their family farm. There was no job that Lorretta shied away from, including middle of the winter nights’ trips to the barn to check on expectant livestock.

    Last spring, Lorretta’s health began to change and she required an extended hospital stay and then a move to the Preeceville Personal Care Home. She was compassionately cared for in her new home. She and her sons enjoyed the Christmas party hosted by the care home and recently a lovely gathering of family, friends, and her care home community helped her celebrate her 85th birthday in March.

    Lorretta’s final move is to join those who she has loved who have passed on before her; her parents, Joseph (1960) and Gladys (2010); brothers, Albert (in infancy), Roy (2016), Harold (Sept. 2020) (Thelma), Joe (October 2020) (Adeline)(Ruth), Darren Brinkworth, her infant son, Paul; her husband, Paul (1992); father-in-law, and mother-in-law, Dmetro (1994) and Polly (2011); brother-in-law, Joseph Madarash (2004). Loretta joins many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Everyone was important to Lorretta, and we are left to remember them all.

    Lorretta will be missed by those who knew her and loved her. She leaves behind her sons, Tony and Russell, nephews and nieces of her Brinkworth family – Ernest (Linda) Brinkworth and their children, Jeremiah (Lynn), Jennifer, Stephanie; nieces, Adell (Doug) Diggle, and child James, grand-daughter, Ariana; Jayson (Laura) Brinkworth, children, Tyson, Jayla, Cooper; Janie Dee Brinkworth; family members of the Madarash family; her sister-in-law, Julia Madarash; her niece, Joanne (Garry) Madarash Clarke and children, Mackenzie (Colton), Courtney (Steven), Creighton (Larissa), and many cousins from the Firman , Oryszczyn and Sleziak families.

    Lorretta leaves a legacy of generosity, caring for family and friends, caring for animals, and a lifetime of hard work and selflessness in caring for others. She was a strong woman, who said what she liked, was not afraid to say what she didn’t like, and was determined to be independent. Our sky has a new star!
