Olga Gloria Evans was born in Preeceville Saskatchewan on September 9, 1943 to Harry and Anne (nee Barteski) Chimko. Olga grew up on the family farm in the Chechow district. She moved to Saskatoon at 17 years of age and worked at Johnson’s Photo.
Olga met Howard Evans while at a dance at the Manhattan Hall in Saskatoon when she was 19. They were married one year later in 1964 in Preeceville.
They then moved to Victoria, British Columbia where Howard was stationed with the Navy. In 1968 they moved to Thunder Bay, Ontario where they welcomed their first son Dwayne. Their next move was to Winnipeg, Manitoba, during that time their son Kevin was born. Over the next few years the family moved to Yorkton, Saskatchewan; Dartmouth, Nova Scotia; and London, England. In 1980 they finally settled back on the family farm in Preeceville.
Olga worked at the care home until she retired at age 65. Soon after she met a man of her dreams. Russel.
They met in August 2008, He quickly became the love of her life, and they were inseparable until her passing. Dwayne and Kevin both agree that Russell gave her incredible happiness and the best years of her life. His unbelievable care for her during her battle with cancer gave the family incredible solace.
After retirement Olga loved being with Russell, taking care of her beautiful yard, revitalizing the polka seen and making sure her boys and grandkids were always taken care of.
Olga spent many volunteer hours with the Ladies Auxiliary in Preeceville. She loved to dance, and her garden was always full of beautiful flowers.
Olga was predeceased by her father Harry Chimko and brother Mike Chimko.
Olga will be dearly missed by her mother Anne Chimko, her partner Russell Kitzan, and children Dwayne and Kevin Evans. Her grandchildren Scott, Kayla, Jessica, Damien, Jax and Maya. Her brother Mike Chimko, and sister Jean Kotyk.
The funeral service was held Saturday, April 11, 2020 at the Chapel of Preeceville Funeral Home, Preeceville, SK. with the Very Rev. Fr. Joakim Rac officiating. The Interment followed in the Holy Ghost Ukrainian Catholic Parish Cemetery Chekhiv with Dwayne & Kevin Evans serving as urn bearers.
Memorials in memory of Olga may be made to the Holy Transfiguration Ukrainian Catholic Church or to Preeceville & District Hospital Auxiliary as gifts of remembrance.
