On September 25, 2023, the world got a little dimmer and heaven got a little brighter with the passing of Pauline Anaka, wife of the late Harry E. Anaka. She was 90 years of age.
Pauline was born on November 22, 1932, to parents, John and Polly (Pro'wat) Horhut in Chernewe, Ukraine. She travelled to Canada in 1939 with her parents and four sisters. They resided north of Lady Lake where they farmed. Two additional sisters were born. Pauline attended Brookview School and later waitressed at her sister Peggy's Cafe in Sturgis. She married Harry in 1953 and lived on his family farm.
She gave him 6 children, Karen (Walter Rose) of Sturgis, Donna Anaka, Elaine (Bob Klassen) of Sherwood Park, AB, Nicole Anaka (Frank Babiarz) of Port Coquitlam, BC, Scott Anaka and Tammy Anaka of Sherwood Park, AB. They in turn provided 4 grandchildren: Chad Rose (Kim Strijak), Lisa Rose, Mathew Klassen (Ella Dodd), and Paulina Klassen; two step-grandchildren, Carley and Colton Babiarz, and four great-grandchildren, Keira Sakal, Autumn Rose, Oliver Klassen and Arabella Klassen. She is also survived by three sisters, Katie Krywy, Elsie Carstein and Lena Nagy.
She is predeceased by her husband Harry; children, Scott and Donna; parents, John and Polly; brothers, Michael and John and sisters, Peggy Kolot, Mary Harris and Anna Bernais.
In the past, Pauline would often be found tending her garden and flower beds. She loved being in her kitchen baking fresh bread or her children's favorite birthday cake. She enjoyed making perogies or other Ukrainian dishes. She was often found in the barn milking cows and squirting milk into each cats' mouth as they all lined up like soldiers. She spent many hours at the bowling alley, card table, having coffee with friends, or on her sofa snuggling with her cat, Snoopy.
A service will be held in the summer of 2024.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Stenen Community Cemetery (c/o Village of Stenen, PO Box 160, Stenen, SK, S0A 3X0) or the Yorkton SPCA as gifts of remembrance.
