CHERKOWSKI – Mr. Peter Cherkowski beloved husband of Nancy Cherkowski of Preeceville, formerly of the Buchanan district passed away peacefully in his home on Tuesday, April 11, 2017. He was eighty three years of age.

     Peter was born on July 10, 1933 on the family farm in the Olesha district near Buchanan, Saskatchewan. A son to Nick and Pauline (nee Antonio) Cherkowski.

     Peter grew up on the farm and attended Olesha School. Like most young boys on the farm, Peter began helping his family with chores at an early age. This started his love for farming that lasted his whole life.

     Peter was united in marriage to Nancy Chorney on March 26, 1959 in Canora. The couple began farming together. In spite of some of the hardships that come with farming, Peter always enjoyed the work and the life that farming provided. Peter especially enjoyed growing grains and raising cattle. He never wanted or needed to travel. Peter was a quiet man who was always willing to help his neighbours.  He enjoyed raising cattle and animals. Even later in life when he was ill he enjoyed having his cats around him. 

     Peter and Nancy farmed until 2005 when due to Peter’s health they could no longer continue. Peter and Nancy moved into Preeceville where they bought their retirement home. Peter was able to remain at home even after his stroke in 2014, with the help of Nancy and Home Care until his passing on April 11, 2017.

     Peter was predeceased by his parents Nick and Pauline nee (Antonio) Cherkowski; a brother Peter in infancy, and his brother Steve in 1998. He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife of 58 years Nancy, and her brothers William and Julius as well as his nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

     Prayers were held on Monday, April 17, 2017 from the Chapel of Preeceville Funeral Home. Funeral Services were held on Tuesday, April 18, 2017 from the Chapel of Preeceville Funeral Home with Very Rev. Fr. Joakim Rac officiating. Interment followed in the Holy Transfiguration Ukrainian Catholic Parish Cemetery in Preeceville with Brian Brodziak, Conway Brodziak, Bernie Brodziak, Larry Brodziak, Kevin Romick and Jerry Prystay servicng as the casketbearers.

     Memorials in memory of Peter may be made to the Holy Transfiguration Ukrainian Catholic Church or to the S.P.C.A. as gifts of remembrance.
