Raymond Pottle Obituary

It is with profound sadness that the family of Raymond Pottle, cherished husband of the late Katherine Pottle, of Sturgis, announce his passing on Thursday, March 19th. He was 89 years of age.

Visitation will be held on Friday, April 10, 2026, from 7:00-8:30 p.m. from the Chapel of Preeceville Funeral Home.

A Service in Celebration of Raymond's Life will be held on Saturday, April 11, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. from the Chapel of Preeceville Funeral Home.

Memorial donations in memory of Ray may be made to the Preeceville Long Term Care Auxilliary (Box 937, Preeceville, SK, S0A 3B0) as gifts of remembrance.

Raymond Bernard Pottle was born November 7, 1936 in Endeavour, SK and died March 19, 2026 in the Preeceville & District Long Term Care Home.

Ray had 4 older siblings born to Stephen and Agnes (Roemer) Pottle and he was the 6th child born to Stephen and Victoria (Halchuk) Pottle.  He was big bother to 9 younger siblings.  Ray valued being one of 19 children and he maintained close connections with his siblings and their families.

The Pottle Family farm, located 3 miles east of Usherville, SK. is where Ray learned about hard work and the importance of family relationships as his mother died when he was 17 years old.  He attended the school located on their quarter of land, helped on the farm and assisted in caring for his younger brothers and sisters.  Ray gained employment in road construction, at a local sawmill and at the Sask. Timber Board before beginning a 30-year career as a grain elevator agent.  He worked for the same company that started as Searle Grain, which became Federal Grain and then Sask. Wheat Pool. 

Ray married, Katherine “Kathy” German of Lady Lake, SK on October 16, 1959.   They made their homes in Endeavour, Prairie River, Lintlaw and Star City before retiring to Sturgis in 1997.  Ray & Kathy welcomed 3 sons, Larry (1960), Brian (1962) and Glenn (1966).  Ray served on numerous community boards including the School Board, Credit Union Board and Rec Board.  Their entire family was actively involved in fastball, curling and golfing, and they all enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping and time spent with the Pottle and German families.  His retirement activities focused on gardening, fishing, hunting and pinching 699,312 perogies with Kathy.

Ray is predeceased by his loving wife Kathy (Sept 2025), his middle son Brian (Sept 2024), his parents, Stephen (1979) and Victoria (1953); his father-in law Joe German (1976); his mother-in-law Annie German (2006); siblings Gordon, Florence, Agnes, Alice, Fred, Edna, Norman, Ivy, Gilbert, Joan, Steve, Ernie, Darlene, numerous sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews from the Pottle and German families. 

Ray is survived by his son Larry & wife Heather and their children and grandchildren, Bradly & Amanda, Zander, Mia, Emery; Jennifer, Korsen & Daysha, Callum.  His daughter-in-law Valerie and children, Graham & Maia, Andrea & James. His son Glenn & wife Debbie and their children and grandchildren, Jordan & Carlyn, Decker, Cabela, Titan; Jessica & Ray-Al, Arrow. Siblings Earl Pottle, Shirley (Ron) Schlamp, Blanche (Larry) Delanoy; Jim (Vi) Pottle; Linda (Ron) Neiszner and numerous sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law from the German family and countless nieces and nephews who all had a special place in his heart.
