BECKEN – Mr. Raymond Clarence Becken of Edmonton Alberta and formerly of Preeceville passed away on Friday, February 10, 2023, at the age of 93. Ray was born on April 30, 1929, in a small room upstairs in Hans Iverson’s house in Preeceville, Saskatchewan. He was the oldest child to Kris and Ruth Becken. He also had a sister, Olivine (Peterson). Ray attended school in Preeceville and stayed in Preeceville until he left to pursue a job with Midwest Diamond Drilling. He would eventually return to Preeceville after retiring, where he would become involved with the things he loved… Club 60, and the Lutheran Church and of course reunite with his sister and family. Ray is survived by his children, Brian, Debbie (Bruce Martin), Donna (Marc de Champlain), Alan (Tracy Fox), as well as Ann Becken; his grandchildren, Alisha, Trymer, Joebi and Alana; two great-grandchildren, Evony and Emmet and many relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his parents, Kristian Becken and Ruth Lundgren; sister, Olivine and brother-in-law, Ernie Petersen. A Memorial Service was held on Friday, February 17, 2023 from Saint Andrew’s Catholic Church, Edmonton, Alberta. The Funeral Service took place on Wednesday, March 1, 2023 from St. John Lutheran Church in Preeceville, Saskatchewan with Pastor Hein Bertram officiating. Barb Melsness played the piano for the hymns ‘Just as I Am’, ‘The Old Rugged Cross’, and ‘How Great Thou Art’. Ray’s daughter, Donna Becken, read the eulogy and shared special memories of her dad. Agnes Murrin and Blaine Medlang read scriptures. Interment followed in the Preeceville Lutheran Cemetery with Bruce Martin, Marc de Champlain, Phil Murrin, Blaine Medlang, Bill Lesko and Brian Melsness serving as casket bearers.
