Richard was born on January 8th, 1961, to John and Anne (Chernowchan) Vewchar, in Preeceville. He attended school in Endeavour and Preeceville. Upon leaving school, Richard worked several jobs. As a kid, he worked for Wayne Lowe on his farm. During his adult years, he worked at Simpson Timber and Saskply Mills in Hudson Bay, and in Flin Flon at the mine, and drywalling. He also worked in Davidson doing cement and concrete and then spent many years in the bush for a number of logging companies. When he lived in Edmonton, he worked as a meat cutter. Richard worked doing road construction, driving the broom tractor as well as for the Town of Lintlaw. His last job was working in Humboldt driving rock truck.
Richard was diagnosed with diabetes in 2000. In 2014, his kidneys failed and he started dialysis. Richard had both of his legs amputated below his knees, but this didn’t stop him from cutting his lawn with his riding lawn mower. He enjoyed cooking as well as fishing, camping, campfires, hunting and being with his family and friends. Richard loved his cats. He also enjoyed growing a garden and using the vegetables that it produced. He really enjoyed fishing and family get-togethers the best.
In January 2025, Richard had two heart attacks. He got three stents put in. After that, his health continued to decline and he was unable to live at home. He moved into Long-Term Care in Yorkton, where he became a permanent resident until his passing.
Richard was a fighter and had been through so much with his health issues over the years, but continued to do whatever he was able to do, and to make the most out of each day.
Richard was the 9th child of 10 siblings. He is survived by his best friend of 18 years, Lorene Lazaruk, and by his 9 siblings, David (Vi) Andrusiek, Dan (Merlin) Vewchar, Gordon (Kathleen) Vewchar, Lenord Vewchar (Iris), Mary Ann Kopeck, Matilda (Ed) Stefanowich, Bob (Elsie) Vewchar, Harold (Lorna) Vewchar, and Gaylene (Dean) Johnson, numerous nephews, nieces, great nephews and nieces and great-great nephews and nieces as well as many cousins and friends.
Richard is pre-deceased by his parents, John (2002) and Anne (2006); sister-in-law, Rosemarie Andrusiek (2002) as well as a great-nephew, Rayne Stefanowich (2004).
